Sorry guys is this post regarding a permanenet (ie PAYE type) job, or non-permanent eg subcontracted position?

I have assumed from the start it is for a permanent position.

Only enquired as I had an unsolicited letter from BG arrive recently, asking if I wanted to work for them as a subby. It included a leaflet thing too. When I looked into it, the position was really just a tarted up PAYE job, hardly any better money than a PAYE job either!

well its been 3 weeks now since i first applied and heard nothing back.

I spoke to Shaz on the 0800 number and she was a useful as a chocolate gas analyzer.

what should i do? just wait and hope?

Just received the forms and I have already hit the first stumbling block!!

It says I need to have s/nvq level 3 and some other city and guilds stuff, which I havent got. Thats the end of that then

What forms mate??

I did mine all on-line 3 weeks ago  I then rang LESLEY a week ago and shesaid the application was still going through the processing stage due to to many applications

Have i gone about it the wrong way or is there a quicker way through the whole process.

Please let me know

thanks :D

they are very slooooowww.
i was 4 months from applying to starting and my mate was 9 (!) months

So in your opinion is starting as a qualified and registered service fitter a good way to get into the company nick?

And whats an SFL??

i was 4 months from applying to starting and my mate was 9 (!) months

its easier for them and i imagine you will get close to the max salary when you start with possibly some sort of probationary period.

SFL is a servicing only engineer who is too old to do an apprenticeship as such and instead does a fast track 1 year course....the gets thrown in at the deep end.

Ok, had the interview today and it went really well, they basically said they want to employ me, but ive got to do the practical on Saturday first.

Couple of things that have concerned me, the most being the fact that private work is a sackable offence.

Im doing quite a bit of private work at the moment, and have built up a nice customer base, including several letting agents, and I dont want to let them down.

I have my own corgi but didnt tell them that. I said "what if I was to get my own corgi to do private work" and he said Id get the sack.

Is there anyway they could find out ive got my own corgi, and do you think other BG engineers are doing privates and getting away with it? Are they really that serious about it?

The other annoying thing was no private use of the compant van, but thats not so much of a problem

Thanks

If you have your own corgi already it's none of bg's business. Yes of course you run the risk of the sack doing private jobs as you are running in competition with your employer, I can't imagine any employer letting you get away with that. Can't imagine them letting you use the van either. That said there is a certain leaway...unofficially although I know guys who have been sacked for both.

What I mean is, is there anyway of them finding out through corgi (or any other means) that I have my own corgi? If I get caught red handed doing privates thats my own fault, but can they actually find out if I have my own corgi?

Proballay get slated for this but there are other nationwide companys where you can use your van for personal use (As long as you dont do a booze cruise to france) and where most of the guys do P.J`s to earn a bit of beer money
Good luck newcomers

So how long did it take to get to the interview stage?

Its been 4 weeks since i filled in the online application and still nothing  The servicing contract that i'm doing is about to finish so will have no work next week

newcomers...all i will say is i can see this ending in tears.

You haven't even got in the door and you are working out how you can pull a fast one.

Have to agree With Scat

Bad move newbie anyway dont you need to have at least 18months experiance to get your own CORGI

Also I am sure the BG check the register every once and a while to look for this.

Sorry to be cheeky, but you may be wrong on the 18 months experiance.

As soon as my NVQ 2, and CCN1 were finished i applied for my Corgi. Luckily i did well on the interview and got my registration. When i received my card through the post all my other domestics ticket were on the card as well

Depends, yes they can find out but if you are registered at your mothers house or in a slightly different name you won't flag up. If you have your own corgi reg that's nothing to do with bg but if you need on the job inspections to renew then that will be proof enough you are doing jobs on the side and enough for gross misconduct.
If you start working full time for Bg and still have enough time to work on the side asell I will be astounded!

wont be that surprising....even a saturday and an hour a night during the week will get you 13 hours of extra work. whether or not he could be arsed after a fun packed day on the patch is another matter.

You dont need 18 months experience, its 6, and I actually got mine after just under 6.

How do they check the register? Ive already got my own corgi so what can I do about it?

I think its unfair personally but rules are rules I suppose

What is the actual likelyhood of getting caught though, say if I drive about in a car doing a few LSGC's a week? Thats all it'd be, just for a good friend who has a letting agency
