Can I fit an unvented cylinder...

every heatrae sadia megaflow unvented cylinder has a sticker on it telling you what to do when water is dripping/running through your tundish.

this is a safety critical feature

i would recommend you get a G3 registered engineer as soon as possible

This is a funny forum - nobody feels helpful enough to say that air gap regeneration is a user procedure and doesn't need any expertise.

Yep - the sticker is there, but half ripped off, completely filthy, and hardly readable. So I've researched the causes of dripping, which is why I said I understood all the pipework, and the more I read about unvented vessels the more obvious it is that the G3 qualification is a lot of fuss about nothing. And yes it's safety critical, but the open valve is proof that the safety feature is working.

This isn't rocket science - I can see that it's all been installed correctly, so I'll follow the Heatrae procedure and then at some point carry out the maintenance checks to make sure that the all is good order.

The open valve is also saying that something is wrong, and must be checked immediately.

But then again it's your house, just hope the insurance covers it.

The number of sarcastic, sneering, and unhelpful members outweighs the number of helpful ones. Whether or not it's my house, or my insurance policy, isn't anyone's business.

I knew that something was wrong - that's why I posted on this topic, and I'm living proof that it doesn't take much intelligence or aptitude to understand how to put it right.

But you don't actually know what's wrong do you?

At least three guys have told you there is something wrong and all of them are well respected on here and post regularly but you are choosing to ignore thier advice because, apparantly, you know better.

I'm not G3 qualified and I stay well clear of them because of that however even I know what's wrong with yours.

But as you say it's your life.

Tony.

I've never said "it's my life", but I do know exactly what's wrong. I didn't when I first posted, but it didn't very long to find out.

I've never said that I know better than anyone, but I do know enough now to maintain this Megaflow.

I had to find out for myself because nobody here was helping. It isn't useful to to tell me that "something is wrong" when I already know it, and it isn't helpful to get all melodramatic about "danger" and "insurance" without specifying the danger and why insurance might be needed. Perhaps you respect people who act in this way, but they don't deserve respect for just typing a lot of words at a keyboard.

By the way I have been to unvented jobs where someone has jammed open motorised valve as a temporary measure as motor faulty.

This is just more melodrama.

I don't intend digging a hole in a field, bypassing the boiler thermostat, and blocking the outlet from the T&P relief valve, but thanks for warning against doing that. Nor will I jam open a motorised valve, although that wouldn't be dangerous unless the T&P relief valve is stuck/faulty/blocked, but thanks for advising against that. I've already said that I'll be carrying out the routine service checks, as stipulated by the manufacturer, but thanks for your encouragement to do that.

I understand your reasons for discouraging people from messing with what they don't understand, but I don't respect the childish content of the posts and the superior attitude in this topic. Two exceptions are Goldspoon, who seems very courteous, and doitall, who at least suggested a cheaper way of taking the G3 course.

One of you even said that they didn't think it was the cylinder - how incompetent is that?

As a result of my actions, the dripping has now stopped. Thank you to everyone who took the time to tell me what the problem was. That's nobody, by the way.

are you a member of a recognised body? the G3 course aint for members of the public.

Where did you obtain this info Glasgowgas? I am not a member of a recognised body (plumbing) as far as I am aware. Nobody asked me if I was when I signed up for the course and BPEC did not ask me such a question before issuing my ticket.

you got the advice you asked for

nobody on this site will tell you how to mess with an unvented cylinder

you don't like it

go post somewhere else

that's not exactly rocket science either

True - I did get the answer to my first question, but I later found out that the answer was wrong - it isn't illegal unless the person messing is incompetent.

The people who are being rude and unhelpful are the ones who should post somewhere else, as what they're doing is clearly against the forum rules.

I'll continue posting here, but you're also being ignored from now on. If you don't like it then I suggest you join a forum in your own country.

You're being ignored mate   so go join a forum in your own country

At leasy you're a long way from the big bang.
