They are also proposing the introduction of 'hands free driving' on motorways possibly next year. The onus of responsibility to be on the car manufacturer in the event of any accident, rather than the driver. I wonder how that will go down with the car legals.

And how will insurance work, will the car or the driver be insured ?

I really don't get the point of the hands free driving, surely it will just breed laziness. We'll have people cruising down the motorway, fast asleep. What could go wrong?

That could happen, but until or maybe if level 5 autonomy becomes a reality (no driver controls) the driver has to be in charge of the vehicle and be ready to take over control.

Bit of a bummer, I think the only reason I'd want an autonomous car is to take me to the pub and back. I suppose one could always get a taxi.

That could be dangerous - rival pubs will hack cars to bring all the customers to them

Ah, but then the taxis will be driverless.

Never mind hands-free driving, why are you avoiding the terrible death and injury rates for motorcyclist?

Far worse than cars, but you want to ignore it and brush it under the carpet.

Only car-drivers matter, eh?
