No one knows yet, there's going to be a consultation to work out what they should be.

My thoughts: As long as Autonomous vehicles are safer than human operated ones then we're going to allow them. That doesn't mean they have to be perfectly safe, just better. Insurance companies will find a way.

We'd have had them in trains years ago, but its heavily unionised.

That's a good comparison, Trains were easier to automate but when we could, we did. Now we're almost ready to do the same with cars on motorways.

I'm not seeing much in the way of actual changes, rather what is there already has been reworded for the hard of thinking and those sadly lacking in common sense.

I has always been the case that you give way to pedestrians when turning into or pulling out of a side road, but many drivers fail to understand this and expect pedestrians to get out of their way. It has always been common sense to slow down for horses and give adequate space to cyclists, why should drivers need to be told?

They were discussing autonomous cars on the telly the other day. 2 of folks on the show had teslas, both reported an issue in overtaking lorries in the middle lane. When trying to accelerate to overtake the speed limited lorries the car was applying the brakes as the sensors were picking up and recognising the 50 mph speed restriction sign on the back of the lorry and mistaking it for a road speed limit.

Read it again, dont just skim through it.

What it is suggesting is there.
Read after the word "introduction" :)

Can you steer a train?

Boeing managed to "steer" their 737 Max's into the ground. Not sure I'd put too much trust in technology per se. It's recognised that the interface between computer systems and the real world is challenging.

What do you propose we do to motorcyclists? ban them?

Yes along with bicycles, quads, horses, tractors and trucks. Oh and for JohnD the reason why motor cyclists have more accidents is because they only have two wheels and a large proportion of the riders are idiots on the roads.

I never read it or even skimmed through it. It's just a load of text, I may as well just read the highway code.

I just thought it would be useful to just link us to the proposed changes. There's plumbers here on £150/ hour, and that will cost £75 to read.

Never mind hands-free driving, why are you avoiding the terrible death and injury rates for motorcyclist?

Far worse than cars, but you want to ignore it and brush it under the carpet.

Only car-drivers matter, eh?
Penalise the uninsured car drivers - some years ago one took me out off my bike - took 4 years to get a c*** payout from the Motor Insurers Bureau
