I’m not saying we shouldn't take our fair share of genuine refugees and nobody can blame genuine refugees for trying to get away from danger but economic ones should not be given the same treatment as genuine ones.

I've only started thinking about these proposals because of the Gary Lineker furore, so I'm very late to this thread. But, as far as I can see, I don't think we do take our fair share. On a per capita basis we are close to the bottom in Europe for asylum applications. If we spent more money on the processing system, we could quickly sort out the genuine asylum seekers from the economic migrants and then return the economic ones to their home country (mainly to Albania it seems). Other countries do it a lot more quickly, without resorting to these type of policies.
