Coincidence?

Sadly, it was people like yourself , who had golliwogs removed from Robertsons jam jars. The worst offenders for believing all of this "everything's racist" drivel are usually "White",pseudo, middle class people (usually living in affluent suburbs which don't have any "Johnny foreigners" within a bloody mile). They don't live in the "real world" (because they don't want to be associating with us "common" people) They read "The Guardian" newspaper and believe every single word of it's leftist agenda. They complain incessantly about educational standards in this country, whilst sending their 2 children to a private school (in the hope they will go to university, because they never did) They work in "non jobs" for local government, are up to their eyes in debt through having a large mortgage, 2 cars on the drive and f**k all in the freezer. The female of this species undoubtedly logs on to mumsnet in the morning and stays logged on till late at night. Digesting every bit of trivial nonsense on there. They shop at Waitrose (sometimes lowering themselves to wander around M&S food sections or (dare I say) Morrisons) They take their spoilt little brats to school in their "Chelsea tractors" (even though it's only a few hundred yards down the road) Come back home, log on to mumsnet again and complain about climate change,,, and how the parking right outside the school is getting terrible these days, "Oh the council want to stop us parking outside the school, so little Jasmine and Bartholomew, will have to walk an extra 5 yards, in the rain." blah, blah, blah..
Have I missed anything out ??
This is racist, and thus offensive ;)

You did actually miss out on mentioning khakhi trousered dykes

Nah,, that would be offensively sexist.

It can be considered offensive depending on the context of its use.
Just like other pejorative terms, it might be OK to use those terms within the group, but for others outside the group to use them it may be considered offensive.
A reproduction of kind of a definition which might help to illustrate the situation better:
This is kind of a touchy subject.

I have a number of lesbian friends that would take you to the floor and beat you for calling them a ****.

Then there are quite a few of my lesbian friends that go around calling everybody and there sister ****.

Then there are a few others that don't care one way or the other cause it is just a word. (i am one of these)

However, the basic meaning of the term is closer to the butch lesbian, cause there are days that I wear my man shorts, tank top and have a doorag on my head and my friends will tell me that I look Dyky. And I am defiantly a femme.

I think that **** is one of those words that can be used if you are one, but if you aren't you probably shouldn't say it unless you want to have you butt kicked.

So really that pseudo definition applies to any pejorative term.
So the posts suggesting that 'other terms must be OK because my friend (who is part of the group involved) uses it all the time', are misinformed or fail to understand the context of using such terms.
Assuming Dex is not part of that group, lesbians may consider his use of the term offensive.
However, if Dex is part of that group he may use it often without giving offence because it would be used in kind of a self deprecating way.

I would have thought that Dex would be well informed about using such potentially pejorative terms in context.

Then Dex has cleverly sidestepped DIYnot's inbuilt censor by not using the word in its singular form, so **** is censored but dykes is not.

Take a word that is not currently considered offensive: "crim". I may call you a "crim" and you could be seriously offended. However I suspect prisoners use it between themselves as a humorous insult.

All it takes is a little bit of fore-thought. Is that too much to ask?
Unless, of course, people are being intentionally offensive?

Here in Scotland, dykes are stone walls. In my town there is a street called Longdykes Road, which got it's name from the long wall, which used to run all the way along it. There used to be a pathway which was nicknamed the "dooble dykes" Stone walls either side of the path gave it it's local nickname. ;) ;)

Dykes down this part of the world are drainage ditch's around the fields.

Ahh, now the people with cognitive biases are on the back foot they want the mods to step in.

You mean everyone wants the mods to step in, including you? where's your evidence

 If you insist:
I'm losing count:

Joe 90
Disco dancer
Diane Abbot
and now some supposed Frog.

It's getting a bit tiresome. Can't the mods do something about this?

I agree with JBR the mod's need may need to step in  .

I count two. You said everyone. The people with cognitive biases. Bit like saying everyone that has a head. I await your reply.

That'll be the first time a coloured family have willingly attended court then.
Outrageously bigotted comment, but I expect little better from you.

Did you not notice these,"        " after the joke??

Gawd, some people have absolutely no sense of humour...... (mind you these politically correct lefties, never have)

Too true. A sense of humour and a chip on the shoulder are mutually incompatible.

There's no chip on my shoulder, Wilson. I'll tell you what there is on my shoulder, though: three pips, and don't you forget it.

Then you should be more careful how you eat your oranges. Sir!

Wasn't there once a little Dutch boy who stuck his finger in a dyke?

Oh, wait a minute...

If I'm supposed to be all of these people, I'm sharp enough to switch my nom de plume all the time and still kick your butt.

The way things are going, there are going to be a couple of dozen 'different people' on here, of various interestingly contrived names, all strongly agreeing with each other. Everyone else will have got fed up and left.

On the other hand, in a way I admire Joe: I wouldn't know how to set up multiple personalities without being rumbled by the mods/admin. I assume that, to do so, one has to have different e-mail addresses. How many different Hotmail addresses is it possible for one person to create?

Unless, of course, people are being intentionally offended.

Not difficult when they have a chip on the shoulder.

I think that most people are not intentionally offensive to anyone, but simply use a convenient term (and one that has been in common use for a long time) to refer to certain people. The trouble is that what is acceptable one day can become offensive the next day. Confusing.

I think the safest thing is to refer to these people in any way you choose provided they, or our middle class professional offence-takers, are not within earshot. To be completely safe, avoid talking to them at all!

Of course, that's not going to encourage integration and living in harmony, is it? But then, I think many such people don't want that anyway.

Yes.

What about our poster 'jockscott' ?

Is that:
his real name?
a username because he lives in Scotland?
part of each?
an insult because he does not like Scottish people?

I dread to think what may be the equivalent for other nationalities.
