Copper vs Plastic

take no notice whatsoever of BB who tend to hijack and ruin threads. He is totally unconstructive, as you can see. I'm sure a few more of his comments will be along soon.

I do like this cut and paste thing.

Hope you dont mind me correcting your post BB

this is a pretty pointless argument. Its all down to a matter of opinion and personal preference. You use what your comfortable with. I use pushfit, compressions, and soldered copper. It really all depends on the application.
I have no problems with pushfit, however everytime I find it in peoples houses its never been fitted properly, which strengthens softus argument. I don't use it on a regular basis but I am yet to have a failure. You just have to make sure you use it properly. However I wouldn't have plastic on show, it looks horrible. You can't fault soldered copper, its been going strong for years, and rarely fails, but the quality of the copper and fittings has definately gone down hill in the last 5-10yrs.

That depends on the makers. Read the instructions. If the connections are outside the boiler casing then usually plastic is OK right up to the boiler.

Dangerously wrong again BB.

Name me one manufacturer who says the plastic is allowed up to the boiler casing or tails?

You obviously haven't a clue as to why there has to be 1M of copper off the boiler

That'll keep you googling for a while as per usual

yet again bigbullshits lack of any TRUE knowledge or practical experience shines through. I suppose speedfit is fine for gas too is it BB?

I'm a DIY'r and have always used copper, except when advised that a electrical break was required in the copper pipework feeding outside taps, duly fitted the suggested push fit plastic iso valve.

Valve assembly failed, pictures show the story:

Not a laminate floor, carpet under water!!

Head assembly failed

This had been fitted in accordance with instructions, unit returned to manufacturer by rep, recieved a good will gesture payment from them towards the damage, use with caution!!!!

My 2 pence worth back on topic, use copper.

John guest is a tad rubbish

but tell me, did you use the securing clips?

I cannot see them in the 2nd picture did you remove them?

I fitted what was in the pre-sealed packaging, the whole assembly was cut out complete with pipe stubs and sent for testing along with the head.

The suggestion was that frost caused a ice plug to travel from the tap to the iso valve and force the head off.

Their was no mention of any minimum working temperature or risk of frost damage, in fact the contarary in their web site, ideal for caravans etc

No it hadn't - there are no collet covers or collet clips.

Use of collet covers or collet clips on fittings recommended.

Also, you let it freeze.

If you're arguing that copper is better, be honest - would you have a copper installation freeze without expecting damage?

Do you use collet clips to hold the actual valve secure in the fitting :?:

All I can see is another failed carp plastic fitting,

The head assembly failed. Collects, which are not essential, secure the pipe to the fitting, this was not a failure of the pipe seal mechanism.

Theres a clever place to put it. Dont worry if you get back siphonage from out side tap coz it wont reach the stop tap, but might find its way on the pipe before the failed JG plastic fitting.
