Death in the channel…again

Is it time to Ref0rm the government since the boats cannot be stopped?
I think it goes wider afield, I don't think western governments can carry on like they've been used to, if they do they're on a road to nowhere. Que song.

@Odds - would you steer the boat, if you thought a drone was watching and you'd go to prison? That policy seems to be working as we are seeing more and more headlines of "skippers" being prosecuted. I think also the message that you will never be granted a right to stay if you come by boat, is probably getting out.

It would be good if the rescue services returned to port of origin too, but that would probably lead to refusal of help and more deaths.

“Familiar berth” do you think the skipper is incapable of docking anywhere other than home berth? These are highly trained and qualified sailors not some half qualified day skipper with an ICC.
It's not just the berthing of the boat, it's about the whole off-shore to on-shore patient transfer arrangements.
And the speed of boat and personel availability for the next rescue.

It's more than that, it's about revisiting the whole sorry saga on creating refugees through conflict, famine, climate change, etc.
And the global attitude to those forced from their homes through no fault of their own.

like what?

You are aware that they have emergency services in France?

If that were a valid argument it would support them not being there at all.

Day skipper & yachtmaster both theory only, no ICC.

And no boat. :(
So you did day skipper theory, didn't do the practical and then went on to do coastal/YM theory? You must have a nice collection of 2B pencils :D

I don't disagree, but there also has to be a recognition that many illegals are just that - illegal immigrants

There may be illegal immigrants, but the only reason we've chosen to make all of them illegal is because we don't like the fact that around 80% are legitimate refugees that we should be giving shelter to.

And the fact that these asylum seekers make up only 2% of the total immigration figures.
