2 lanes on, 2 lanes off. WTF is so hard to understand about left lane for left and straight ahead, right lane for right and straight ahead. ****in idiot decided to turn right form the left lane, and hit the back of my car. and then said both lanes go right (into a small road). he even (tried) to tell the police the same thing!

people like him should be banned from the roads

I saw a spectacular collision where a guy in the left hand lane wanted to go right at a r/about, just as the guy parallel with him in the r/h lane decided at the last possible moment to go left!!

I agree that that was a very, very stupid thing to do, though the highway code only says "Use the most appropriate lane". He could argue he was a ****** and didn't know what appropriate meant.

According to our local council, markings on roundabouts are not compulsory instructions. i.e. if a lane is marked left and straight ahead, you can choose to ignore it and go right.

We have had a long running battle where they have changed the priority on two lanes approaching a roundabout, the left is marked as left only and the right is marked as straight and right. The trouble is people at the next junction assume that because you are in the right lane, your are going right, this has caused no end of minor accidents and near misses. You also get the poeple in the left only lane ignoring the markings going straight ahead, with the same near misses. Its about time all lanes up to roundabouts were standardised. It would make it a lot easier for the idiot drivers. ;)

we've got the same new rules on our roundabouts but the thing is the markings are on the road just before the roundabout itself, how the f*** are you supposed to see under cars. they also have a big sign on the left on the run up to the junction but its next to a bus stop.you can guess the rest.

Turning right from the lefthand lane? Yup, that's a common one round here too. It happens so much here that it doesn't surprise me anymore. Most of the time they don't even indicate!!!

if he had of indicated, then i would have had some warning he was about to do something stupidly dangerous. nxt time he'll turn right properly

;) theres a roundabout in doncaster town centre, markings on the approach suggest left lane for left and straight on, right lane for right and straight on, however, there are only 2 exits: left and straight on

lane markings on approaches to roudabouts are determined by volume of traffic using each exit.

There is a dual carriageway between here and sheffield, every 0.7miles or so, there is a roundabout, for 10 miles of this road, it is the most annoying road EVER. The most annoying bit is TWO OF THE ROUNDABOUTS HAVE ONLY ONE EXIT: STRAIGHT ON! Between every roundabout, as soon as you hit 70, you have to start slowing back down to 30-40 for the roundabout! bad design. rant over.

anyway, i have seen some near misses, mostly due to people assuming (and as i was taught) that you use the left lane to go straight on, where there are only 2 lanes. Quite a few of the abovementioned roundabouts have markings indicating left lane = left only, and they cant seem to understand that road markings / signs override any contradictory rule. Women  ;)

Have you ever noticed that on large roundabouts, e.g. 4 lanes, many exits, with traffic lights, that if you start off in a lane marked for your exit road, and always stay in that lane as you go through each set of lights, you soon find yourself approaching a red light, but now in the wrong f*****g lane, and no way to move over because of all the traffic backing up from the red light?

Never mind ****** drivers - saints preserve us from ****** road planners....

I think I've seen that one.

Ahhh, Donny. The only place on earth I have ever been refused entry to a nightclub... I wouldn't mind but the club was empty, it was a Thursday night, and it was because I wasn't dressed smartly enough

Traffic lighs on round abouts, that really ****es me off. Do people who take their test nowadays not realise you give way to traffic from the right ? Or is it for all the illegal immigrants who are used to driving on the wrong side of the road ?????

Actually, not quite. You are actually supposed to give way to traffic already on the roundabout.

The generaly rule of the road is "give way to the right", but with a roundabout the rule is "give way to vehicles already on the roundabout". Usually, the two mean the same thing, but if one car is driving very fast then an accident can occur if he assumes the other car is "giving way to the right"

On a roundabout visible from my office window I have seen many bad collisions (firemen cutting people out), caused by this error. Someone enters a roundabout, then someone else steaming up from their right goes onto the roundabout far too quickly (usually trying to straightline the roundabout too). The slower car is already on the roundabout when the faster car joined, but the driver of the faster car has the phrase "give way to the right!" on a loop in his head so assumes he is in the right.
