With some other people, I own a share of an organisation. I recently discovered that one of the managers fiddled £45,000 on her expenses. She's offered to pay £5,000 back. Her basic salary is £141,000 but she gets perks on top.

I say we should sack her at once, but her colleagues in the management team say that she's apologised so we should forget about it. The organisation has never made a profit, and we owners are always having to put more money in.

I don't think the other owners are too pleased either. Should we do what the other managers say, or are they just saying that because some of them have been fiddling their expenses as well?

Give her a raise in salary, she obviously needs it,

The organisation needs more women like that !

Make her pay back everything and tell her to put her parents in a carehome (at her own expense) and also fine her, half a years salary and tell her, no further expenses for 10 yrs. ;) ;)

If she'd been a destitute benefit claimant she'd be off to the big house by now instead of the Houses of Parliament.

The only way you could ever consider keeping her on is if she paid back all the money she stole in full and apologised.

Otherwise, sack her and report her to the police

So if I embezzle £45,000, pay it back and say sorry that that's OK?

Gross misconduct is when the trust between an employee and employer has been so severely damaged they cannot continue working there. If falsely claiming £45k isn't enough to damage trust then what is? If you don't act as any other employer would then you must be prepared to accept a far higher prevalence of fraud /dishonesty. Summary dismissal and police involvement would be appropriate.

One rule for MP's, one for us though.

John, did you `get the contents of her HDD before you confronted her?
If not then all evidence has now been wiped (although may still be recoverable).

This woman needs to lose her job, or she is going to do it again.

She needs reporting to the police and prosecuting.

Stop being wimps and get it done.

If you want help, contact sky TV and they will make a show about it. :)
