Thats alright mate, at least you can admit to screwing up, (A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN'T) you are probably feeling a lot better now for seeing the light and although you probably still don't agree with everything about religion and the starving masses in Africa just by opening your mind a little at a time you will get there.. also i would just like to welcome you to atheism along with the rest of us..

Breadnbutter is doing the God Bothering thing again with phrases such as "It is God's Word". It isn't Gods word at all. If you quote the Bible or The Qoran, then these are the words of MEN who seem to think God has told them something. Now come on 'Give your Head a Shake'.
It's MAN'S word made to gullible people so as they can control and rule over them.
The Africa Aid thing has rather back Fired in that the developed word has saved an awful lot of lives, lives which have subsequently bred like rabbits and amplified the problem to the extent we see today.
It was suggested Mass Sterilisation would help. A sentiment with which I totally agree. This would be treating the cause of the problem and not the effect which is what has been happening for the last 20 years or so. A way to treat the cause would be to treat the suffering to alleviate their unimaginable pain but in return they must do their bit by not reproducing so many children. Ask them to stop bonking at every opportunity is futile so the deal should be that in return for treatment then they should undertake sterilisation.
I know the do gooders will object but the do gooders are amplifying the problem in that the Catholic doctrine disallows the use of condoms hence the number of kids. The Catholic teaching should encourage the use of condoms and so help solve the problem by addressing the cause. The catholic teaching of not using contraceptives is a prime example of the religion introducing rules masked by the idea that it is The Word of God, the rule is practiced so that the numbers of their faith is ensured to increase exponentially and in doing so gives the leaders of the religion even more power.
If that is God's word then God is responsible for all of this suffering.
The whole process of evolution is very much like a closed loop control system. If you treat the effect then that becomes positive feedback and results in instability. The biology example of our school days of the Fox and Rabbit population comes to mind. In that example what you have is a closed loop control system with a high Gain and produces oscillatory instability. The gain being the reproduction rate of the animals involved. In the Africa case you have instability produced by introducing positive feedback into the loop by treating the effect. To stabilise a closed loop control system, the first thing to address is reducing the Gain of the loop, in this case it would be the reduction of the reproduction rate (ie the Gain of the Loop), As with all closed loop control systems that would produce stability.
So Mass sterilisation is the only answer as the God Botherer's/Roman Catholicism will not allow the reduction of the loop gain by the use of condoms. Going on treating the effect will further enhance the loop instability.
