Reducing traffic is not the same as stopping traffic, and therefore the economy will go on.

To encourage people on a national scale to choose (at the point of purchase) fuel efficient cars which pollute less . No it makes good sense.
It doesn't make good sense to tax those people who purchased economical and clean vehicles 8 years later, based on information that was not available to them at the time.

Just like the vehicle excise license saga.

You mean you don't approve of incentivising people to pollute cities less

It's beyond belief people think governments give a sh*te whether you die or not from pollution.
There's a far bigger killer seeing a good percentage of the population off and that's the food we it.
Have a look at the kids these days coming out and weep at how overweight they are.

The Government try and encourage healthy living to lessen the strain on the NHS.

They do this in several ways:

By encouraging healthy eating with taxes levied on certain foods.

Similarly taxes on alcohol and tobacco.

Personally, I feel that the taxes should be raised massively. Fast food joints and supermarkets (and their suppliers) would soon make their products healthier.

Building path and cycleways to encourage the uptake of and increase walking, running and cycling.

Cleaning up the air will lessen the strain too.

Here's one to throw in the pot if it really is about pollution. Instead of a policy that affects the poorer members of society, why not make every home limited to two cars per household across the country with a dispensation for a commercial vehicle if you run a business.
There's a fair few vehicles off the road at a stroke.
There would be no objection would there, after all we all want to save the planet don't we?

Here's one to throw in the pot if it really is about pollution. Instead of a policy that affects the poorer members of society, why not make every home limited to two cars per household across the country with a dispensation for a commercial vehicle if you run a business.
There's a fair few vehicles off the road at a stroke.
There would be no objection would there, after all we all want to save the planet don't we?

Except I own more than several ICE vehicles, yet I can only ride/drive them one at a time.

There's a very good reason why you have no power in these matters.

You can charge what you like, put in place as many financial obstacles as you can think of & even spend £millions of my tax money on psyop campaigns to make us all feel guilty, but at the end of the day you know what? Us well heeled folk are glad the roads are devoid of a few more riff raff & the hoi polloi. Makes getting around so much easier.

Molden said it would depend on driving style, with gentle EV drivers producing fewer particles than fossil-fuelled cars driven badly, though on average he expected slightly higher tyre particles from BEVs.

We should stop all these new BEVs and save the planet .

Did I not tell you that I own a few acres of woodland? I'd need to invite very many people to trample all over it to find anyone who loves my woodland as much as I do.

I have met a few, I remember the lady who my dogs caught trespassing & was visibly shaken that her pooch might be eaten by them. She was exploring my woodland as a trespasser but she carried a bag half full of the litter she collects when she wanders random woodlands whilst walking her pooch. I remember the chap in the funny shaped hat taking an unnatural interest in my fungi & I remember him picking up that I'm actually quite well informed about my fungi thank you. He knew a little bit more about it than I do & even tho' he's now well into his 80's we still get together occasionally to walk my woodland.

Did I ever tell you about my husband & husband team of ghay tree surgeons? They visit 2-3x a year to do the BIG stuff that helps the woodland stay healthy & safe, Granted they're not cheap, & they steal my wood to make charcoal but you can sense that they care.

And finally there is my wild campers. Caught 'em fair & square after setting up their bivvys, lighting the fire & settling down to a night of God knows what. I retired to a safe distance & waited for my son to arrive before we tackled 'em & then the magic words were uttered "we'll take nothing away & leave nothing behind. Still one of the best nights I ever had.
