Not sure if this belongs in the appliance bit or not but looking for thoughts on extending my fridge warranty.
It will be a beko fridge costing £180 with 1 year guarantee from curry's and to add the curry's Care and repair plan for 3 years is £50 = £16.60 per year. I dont normally buy the extended guarantee but £16 per year doesn’t sound much. But then that is really only 2 years as it come with 1 year anyway so its £25 per year.
Thanks

Currys? You have my sympathy.

Even by registering with Beko you'll get it extended by 12 months for free. You can buy extended warranty's direct from Beko btw.

Do not, I repeat do not read any comments on any post on their Facebook page.
Just had a quick look and there is a lot of complaints to do with delivery but that is one reason that I was going to buy from curry's because I can collect it myself. I have a local Euronics independent but they dont stock the fridge i need as I only have a 50cm space - under counter and there are not may options for that.

Do you think there is more than a 10% chance of your fridge going wrong?
MTBF is 8 years, which includes those failing during the warranty period.

So seems unlikely.

I had to google MTBF.
I was actually looking at a Liebheer at £350 but then saw how much spares cost and that seem to need to be ordered from Germany it put me off as I hope to be able to fix the Beko myself as parts seem readily available.
Also the liebheer has a silly touch temp control that looks very expensive to replace rather than a simple dial stat.

My current fridge is a very old hotpoint first edition that I had to replace the stat 13 years ago and have since replaced it again and now need to once more so as its now so old have decided to replace the fridge but my main problem is getting one to fit a 50cm wide space so I am limited to what is available .

Just buy another fridge when it finally goes wrong, otherwise you will be repairing an old fridge under your warranty. Any fridge today will be good for at least 5 years regardless to the manufacturers warranty.

Not sure what you mean.

Do you think they offer these extended warranties, out of simple generosity? They are a very profitable money earner for these companies, that's why they push them so hard. Better to put the money you would have spent on warranties, in the bank, then if something goes wrong, then use the money to repair/replace. Most major failures, occur in the first few weeks, your normal warranty covers that, beyond that, they normally last their expected life.

Thanks dont think I will bother then it seems.

Used to make me laugh buying e.g. a £14.99 kettle in Argos and the screen giving you the option to buy an extended warranty for £2.99 or whatever it was :)
