Extend my fridge warranty (?) (Ed.)

Maybe I could get a new stat at £18 and buy an extended warranty for that but it need to be for over 6 years at that seems to be their lifespan. Think I will do that - what do you reckon £18 stat and £50 for its 7 year warranty

Actually the stat thing is one of the reasons I am have decided against the £350 liebheer because its a touch control stat that I am sure would cost an arm and a leg and a specialist engineer to fit whereas a normal stat is a piece of wire with a knob and a locking nut on the end.

Not sure if this belongs in the appliance bit or not but looking for thoughts on extending my fridge warranty.
It will be a beko fridge costing £180 with 1 year guarantee from curry's and to add the curry's Care and repair plan for 3 years is £50 = £16.60 per year. I dont normally buy the extended guarantee but £16 per year doesn’t sound much. But then that is really only 2 years as it come with 1 year anyway so its £25 per year.
Thanks
I wouldn't I think they're a rip-off. In any case, if it packs up you can get a replacement within about 48 hours, before most of the contents have gone off. Which would be worth less than a year's warranty.

A good point but this is a secondary fridge so not a real problem.

Thanks everyone.
The fridge is about 28 years old !! and I think it just needs a new thermostat which will be the 3rd time I have replaced it, first time was 13 years ago and the second time 6 years ago so the stat lasts about 6 years and cost about £26.
I wonder how much energy I would save with a new fridge over 6 years. New fridge £180 - minus the £26 I would of spent on a new stat = £154 so would i save £154 over 6 years ? is that the correct math ?
There is also a disposal charge for old fridges due to legislation now mandating the recycle of its gas. Scrap merchants not interested for that reason.

Last year, or maybe the year before, our main freezer packed in. I managed to hunt down a replacement, at around half the retail price, brand new, but with a slight dent in the door. It was to go in the utility, so who cares about a dent in the door? It was a shop specialising in selling such items.

Well the beko is now in position and "settling" although I was able to get it in the car without laying it down.

Just interested now to find out how old my old one was as I now can see the labels on the back. Anyone have any ideas.

We have over 50 fridges going at work in office kitchens and I've only ever known them fail with age. Normally the ones with ice boxes and thermostat failed.Could be fixed but the fact they are over 10 years old and starting to rust why bother.
For that reason I don't buy warranty. Just a new appliance if I can't fix myself.
Guess it depends on fridge and your finances.
Those fancy fridge freezers are unreliable but a £200 standard fridge will run for years

The company I worked for, never bothered with fixing anything at all - they failed, they replaced.

Save the £50 and put it towards a new fridge when the time comes.

Appliance insurance is very profitable for the businesses who run it.
