Hi all,

If my house extension project begins construction in February, so foundations being dug, brick laying, concrete being poured, etc. are there any concerns about frost / freezing damage to concrete or masonry? How would you mitigate against that? Or, is it best to begin building 1st March instead? I have some options so want to ensure best outcome.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Pointless postponing from feb to march - biggest risk to foundations is heavy rain. Brickwork might be a bit impacted by frost, but impossible to know if/when that’d happen so I’d crack on with earliest possible start

We build all year round. Admittedly, it's more faffy in the winter. The biggest issue is overnight frosts and the masonry - especially the brickwork. We've only been caught out a couple of times, whereby temp's fell unexpectedly rapidly overnight (the day after they were laid) and spoiled a fair bit of pointing on the brickwork. We'd used frost-proofer and wrapped to brickwork in hessian sacking.
