Ok so fighting talk then name and shame them, a note to your local HSE office will get the wheels in motion but be aware of what can of worms you open, and make sure you have union backup.

Suppose the workflow slows down because you are all fatigued due to the heat?

We successfully used that ploy at the Beeb and they had to get coolers in. ;)

I would start with a discrete call to the local Fire Service. They take fire prevention and fire safety very seriously, and they know the law.

The only device allowed to keep a fire door open in normal conditions ie no fire, are magnetic pads which are linked to the buildings fire alarm system and deactivate the electro magnets when the alarm goes off.
Not quite Tim, we sell a product called Dorgard that screws to the bottom of the door. You press on a lever and it grabs the floor, when your fire alarm sounds, the device hears it and releases its grip and allows the door to close.

why the concern over the door anyway?

Yes , i know it is not to be propped open.

yes i know fire extinguishers are not door stops.

but what i dont know is why all the fuss abot this one door?

look at the other side of the coin.

people moan about it being hot, you want it closed, you are not going to win, in fact you are being a thorn in the side, and we all know what happens to thorns in sides.

Not heard of that does it work on magnetism? or just by friction?, sounds good, obviously has approval as a fire safety device? should have put AFAIK when typing "only", i should have mentioned the only one i know of, sorry gareth

Well that just about covers all the discussion beforehand, wish you could have used the link before, it would have saved all that typing  , great find!

sorry tim no need. you must be immensely proud of your achievements?
