Not really, I came back to the thread, with a little more time, to explain my earlier post. It might be sucking eggs to you, but we don't know about the ability level of the OP.

Ouch! 47 quid, to tackle what is basic testing, and likely the OP might use once.. Really? Battery, lamp/bell, and a bit of wire, all likely found in the drawer where random stuff is put.

Why stop at £47? I have a gadget here, which puts a signal on a cable, and a tracer, which allows you to follow the buried route of the cable.

I have another gadget, which sends a pulse signal down the cable, and by measuring the reflection time, determines the cable length. Nice to have, but necessary, absolutely not.
