Not really, I came back to the thread, with a little more time, to explain my earlier post. It might be sucking eggs to you, but we don't know about the ability level of the OP.
Ouch! 47 quid, to tackle what is basic testing, and likely the OP might use once.. Really? Battery, lamp/bell, and a bit of wire, all likely found in the drawer where random stuff is put.
Why stop at £47? I have a gadget here, which puts a signal on a cable, and a tracer, which allows you to follow the buried route of the cable.
I have another gadget, which sends a pulse signal down the cable, and by measuring the reflection time, determines the cable length. Nice to have, but necessary, absolutely not.

Fair enough but DO NOT QUOTE ME when doing so as it reads as a LECTURE TO ME!!!!
BTW a short on the wanted room socket between core and screen and 'hunt the shorted cable' in the loft with a multimeter would be far simpler and safer than your long trailing wire to trip over.

Yes, it would be easier if the OP were more skilled, but he obviously gave clues, that he was not. Hence, why I bothered to follow up my original post, with a more detailed explanation.
