Garage CU job. info req

If the CU is that old does the wiring match? If so to add circuits you should get a PIR carried out first which will give you a list of remedial work that needs done to the existing installation. Is the bonding etc up to scratch?

When you say "5 way mains splitter box" are you refering to a little box like this one? Click Here (also known as a henly block)

The best soloution is to use a metal clad switch fuse. Are you intending to connect to the henly block yourself? Do you know how to safely isolate it? Are you aware of part P and its implications? Nave you made provision for RCD protection? Do you know how to gland off an armoured cable?

The cable size very much depends on how much load you are intending to use in the garage (you have said what breakers you will be having bot not what you will be running off them), how the cable is installed (i.e. buried underground run on an external wall, run through thermal insulation etc) How long the cable run from the intake position to the garage is etc, etc.

Would it not be easier to get someone to sort out all those fuse boxes and henly blocks etc and fit you one consumer unit which you could also connect your garage supply into. Also if the installation is 50 years old then is is probably rewire time too.

ive been onto the NICEIC and they have confirmed a pvc/pvc cable can be used to do the job. but it must obviously be isolated at the CU end.
Probably just a typo but do you mean a pvc swa cable?
so baring all that in mind. the question i seek an answer for is, if i use the henry block is it feasable to go from the henry block to some form of curcuit protection? eg a little 2 way consumer unit with its 100A fuse and a 63A MCB for example?
I think you are confusing a 100A isolator on an MCB board for a fuse, the isolator doesn't provide any overcurrent protection, I think you may be pushing it on volt drop and efli for 63A on a 10mm swa cable, do you need a 63A supply, how long a run is it, what is the Ze and type of supply?
the CU in the garage will have....
6a breaker for 3 x 75w flourecents
6a breaker for garden lights (500w sec light)
32a breaker for a ring inc. 3 x 13a sockets
32a breaker for a radial to the shed inc. 1x13a socket.
Sockets need to be RCD protected, for a ring main with 3 sockets would a 4mm radial be better? What is on radial to shed? 32A may be OTT.

the reason i am doing this is because ive more or less finished my C&G 2330 and im going self employed and this project is my major works job for the NICEIC to come and look at...

Wow! Sorry to pish on your chips, acs2006, but I fear you have a long way to go before you start selling your services. You don't understand the technical terminology, you have very little idea of the regulations, you don't really seem to understand the difference between Part P of the Building Regulations and the IEE Wiring Regulations and - from what you have said - you have little or no experience.

If you're intending to become a self-employed electrician you should be answering this sort of question, not asking it. FFS.

I sincerely hope you fail your assessment and, should you carry on regardless, I hope your insurers are understanding.

I'm asking for suggesting/configurations here dingbat.

i find ur comments somewhat degrading. you dont know what understand and what i dont understand. i came here to ask a question, not to be slandered by you!

id prefere if u could stay out of my discussions please, and while ur staying out of my discussion you can ponder this...

swearing is the effort of a limited mind trying to express itself.

good day to you.

And being unable to express yourself adequately in the first place is... what, exactly?

I'm sorry if you are offended. But I'd rather that than have the public put in danger by the actions of a poorly educated tradesman. You are nowhere near capable of doing what you propose.

For whatever reason dingbat, you still seem to be involving yourself in a discussion started by me that i have asked you not to participate.

i may be doin the whole niceic thing now but u have no idea of what course/s im enrolled on now and no idea what course/s i am starting.

you also have no idea when i propose to 'sell my services'

infact...regarding me...you just have no idea full stop. making presumptions regarding another person is a very silly thing to do, especially when, like i say, you know nothing about the current situation. nor who your dealing with for that matter.so hows about you go pick on someone else? because im both bored of you and not prepared to tollerate you

i'm not saying i'm going to be this, i'm going to be that, i'm going to do this, that and the other....but what i am saying is that on first impressions i dont hold a very high opinion of you. as for your opinion of me - i dont hold much regard for that either.

hows about you let me worry about me and you worry about you.

could a moderator lock this topic please? or if possible implicate actions refraining the user dingbat from contacting me.

many thanks

Last I checked this was a public forum and everyone is free to post their advice and comments. You have taken umbridge a little too easily - you could after all just choose to ignore any comments or take them on board as you see fit....

point taken jinj. anyroad, ive said my piece, i take in everything that anyone says to me as i feel that if you can get some info/feedback it can do nothing but help you! however, all further remarks from dingabt, shall be ignored.

i get the impression a lot of people know eacho ther on here....do a lot of u fellas work together jinj? or have u all sort of met on here?

As far as I know I have never met anyone on here...nor like them (joke ;))

Why not post your question back them maybe we can help out.....no need to go on the defensive when someone posts something you don't want to hear - if we all did that then no one would post at all!!

relax and enjoy
