Good riddance tobacco!

Smoking kills more people than all the illegal drugs put together. Maybe we should legalise them too eh? Why not?

Well, that really depends.

A lot of people are going to get cancer these days, we are all living older and it's something old age encourages.

Certainly smoking causes a great number of cancers.

But tens of thousands die every year in drug cartel wars, countless numbers of people are in jail for smuggling.

I'm not so sure which is the lesser of two evils.

All that's happening is an attempt to reduce the number of addicts, mostly by discouraging youngsters from taking it up.

Er .. you mean the same youngsters that take ecstacy (drugs) and come staggering out of clubs and collapse wasted in their own pools of vomit? (alcohol) The ones who assume it's the done thing to have mummy or daddy buy them a car as soon as they're 17? (Air pollution).

If you want to encourage an awareness in youngsters of self-health and a healthier world for ALL are you suggesting the goverment work through and legislate against all that as well.[/quote]

I reckon the avoidable evil, of recruiting more children and youngsters to take up an addiction to tobacco, is a pretty bad evil.

It remains a bad and avoidable evil regardless of any other evils that exist in the world. The existence of other evils is no excuse for not addressing this one.

Let me know if you disagree with either of these two points.

PMSL EVIL!

Are you for real? I've yet to see a smoker dancing around skyclad and demonically luring young kids into smoking fags!
Don't mix us up with hard drug pushers and pimps will you!

All I can say is you have a fixation with smoking ... a crusading spirit that's probably pretty unhealthy.
Still .. I'm pleased to see that you do admit there are other evils in the world.

I'll have to trawl back and look see ..
Did you answer at all?
Question: do you drive a car?

My lifestyle is none of your business and is irrelevant to the fact that smoking is unhealthy, and the industry only continues to survive by constantly recruiting new young addicts to be the smokers of the future.

You appear not to mind that.

I do.

Hey killer. If you have children are you happy for them to smoke?

My lifestyle is none of your business

From which I gather you do.
Thank you.
You do NOT retain the sole right to criticize other people's lifestyle and the health implications upon other people if you engage in any yourself.

I rest my case.

Do you condone heroin and crystal meth use on the same basis?

Hey killer. If you have children are you happy for them to smoke?

I haven't any kids, no.
But if I did it's a fair question.
But on a sliding scale ...
I'd be most worried if they were a druggie, obese, a binge drinker and smoking probably coming in last, though neck and neck with drink.
If I was a real puritanical crusader I'd tell them not to have a car too. Not to engage in dangerous sports, or unsafe sex.
Oh b*gger .. I'd have to lock them in the house and just keep them imprisoned indoors for Life.

But there's plenty of literature out there for them to make their own choices so I'd let them do that and I'm afraid if that would make me an irresponsible parent ... so be it.

...criticize other people's lifestyle and the health implications upon other people if you engage in any yourself.

I do understand your position. As part of the pro-smoking lobby, you don't like to hear suggestions to make smoking less popular. I am not wasting my time trying to make you change your mind.

But, as I said, smoking is unhealthy, and the industry only continues to survive by constantly recruiting new young addicts to be the smokers of the future.

You do not deny it, and you appear not to mind.

The fact that smoking is not the only undesirable thing in the world is no excuse for wanting to keep it going.
