Hi recently had our oil boiler serviced but since then the boiler seems to be struggling to heat the radiators unless I tap what I believe is the actuator a few times. Then it fires up but eventually stops again and I have to repeat whole process. The engineer replaced the pump when he came as that had seized and reported that there’s sludge in radiators but didn’t seem interested in attending to those. He also says it’s a 2001 model and lots of the parts are now obsolete so was supposed to be quoting me for a replacement (but hasn’t) I noticed a few days after he’d left, that various leads and plugs werent making good contact ie half out ( the blue lead to the burner was hanging by a thread) so have secured all those which I hoped might be the issue but sadly not.
Anyone got any suggestions as to what by his might be as I’ve found a supplier who sells the actuator and has an expansion vessel in stock which the engineer says is obsolete. The only other part he said it needs is an oil pump that’s leaking but the supplier confirms that IS obsolete.

If your system is full of sludge could easily causing diverter to stick. I would get system cleaned as a priority.
Before throwing big chunks of cash at your boiler got to ask yourself do I feel lucky?
We have replaced many heatslaves with leaking heat stores/main heat exchanger at way less than age of yours.
Should add it would be very odd if a competent oil engineer couldn't get a replacement pump to fit.

Thx I wondered if the sludge could be the issue - Since the engineer says he can’t find the parts and I can , and since he didn’t spot the loose leads and plugs etc and hasn’t quoted me for a new boiler I think I need to find another engineer. Sadly there seems limited engineers around us that want the work as contacted a wb reccomended supplier last week who says they work on a 10 mile radius and we’re 12 miles so can’t help us !
