Housing market downbeat

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46891187

I see on that graph, in 2018 average UK house price was £220k to £240k

If only houses around my way were that cheap! -add £100k to above to be closer -that would get you to a small semi price.

The biggest problem in this country is the use of housing and land as a form of investment.

If the house prices go cheaper the landlords will buy them up before any first time buyers.

I am glad you have admitted that the rights of British workers are not a major concern to you.
So what are your beliefs in the benefits of EU membership based on then.
If you don't really care about the rights of British workers what do you care about.
You believe in Freedom of movement, you don't like plumbers, is there a connection.
Maybe you want revenge and would to see the country flooded with cheap Polish plumbers to undercut and destroy the livelyhood of British plumbers.
You sound suspiciously middle class.
You sound suspiciously deranged.

Sometimes landlords whine that the environment is no longer conducive to them making big profits and say they will pull out if they are taxed like other private investors.

have we seen evidence that they are telling the truth?

Tax changes have reduced profits, reduced volume of rentals and increased rents.

Of course the Guardian disagrees

It's not just about cheaper; it's about the rights in the workplace. In the UK we expect a certain standard of control, a decent safe environment. Many EU workers don't and so don't ask questions. They're being put at risk; you're clearly happy with that.

Your spot on. But all the racist remainers want is cheap labour... Sod the health and rights of EU nationals

House right by me has just gone on the market for £70k more than mine was valued just three years ago. Which is totally bonkers.

Same house, same size back garden, same size front garden, everything the same. Only thing I can think of is that it probably does not have 50 unfinished jobs .

But seriously, its just mad. It is supposed to be a family home but any young couple with kids will struggle unless they both have really good jobs or are already loaded - in which case they would probably choose to live somewhere posher.

Yes - ask any estate agent and they will moan about 2nd property tax killing buy 2 let more than any other market influence
