Immigration and the tories

My grandfather was a lifelong Labour voter, in fact he worked in the pits. Me being a Tory does not make me a traitor to my grandfather's memory.
wot do you think he would think of you?

Mr Howard's father, Bernard Hecht, who came here in the 1930s, falsified details about his parents when he applied for British citizenship in 1947.
Mr Howard said: "I have speculated on the reason and I suppose one possibility is that my grandfather might have entered Britain unlawfully."
The leader, whose new hardline policies on immigration have attracted criticism, says the reason his father gave incorrect information will remain a mystery. But he added: "As for my grandfather, there might have been some irregularities about his status."
Mr Howard decided to reveal the mystery after investigative journalist Michael Crick began looking into his family background.Although Nazism was on the rise in Europe when the Tory leader's father came to Britain he was an economic migrant.

Mr Howard admitted he did not know if his grandfather would have been allowed in under his party's immigration plans.

Forget Tone's dad -- what about the dad-in-law then ? The "Scass git!" Do you realise he was a paid participant in TDUDP ??

He would be very proud of me. He was a great man, but due to the situation back then he was destined to work in coal. He would be very proud that in a time of greater equality his family would be judged by intellect, not locality or ancestory. Family and political beliefs are two entirely separate things, just because your father voted labour doesn't mean you should.

For the record, you may insult me and my political beliefs, but DO NOT make snide comments about what my family's opinions might be of me.

Adam i don't think he means it in a derogatory way, albeit maybe not in your case, there was a lot of bad feeling (justifiably) towards the tory party in the past and I think he may have just been guaging what your grandfathers feeling on the subject may have been?
Of course not knowing how old you were during the times you quote may bear reflection on your views and reply?

Glad to see you are proud of your family as you should be.

Oh dear! put that handbag away,
I wasn't having a go at you or your Granddad I was simply interested in what his feelings would be about your choice of politics, how come your so touchy you've done your share of slinging insults in my direction and I've taken it as friendly banter.
and my family apart from my Dad who was Liberal were all tories I think they were miss guided, I don't think they could have been good tories cos they wasn't nasty enough although thinking about it my Nan was abit racist but I still loved her.

For chrissakes Richard, pi** off you boring little man! Can we have one, just ONE thread where you don't get all Ben Elton on us. Please, keep the political debate to the political threads. This is about labour costs, as in pounds per hour, not about what Labour has cost us.

I have never resorted to posting like this before, but you really are starting to grate. I've mentioned whinging socialists before, please prove me wrong by by being a socialist who DOESN'T whinge and whine about the Tories all the time. Your lot has had two terms in power, you can't blame the Tories any more!
