Is that why they call it the Human Race?
Nothing wrong in bettering yourself and your position in society agreed Adam but the comment i gave in the first part was that some people believe they are better than others not their possessional status but their belief that they are superior. the second part is more in keeping with what you were sayingAdamW said:kendor said:Agreed Pip there are loads of people out there that think they are one better than the next, I didn't realise it was a race to be the best before you pop your clogs, does it buy you a better seat in heaven then?pipme said:Even more worrying, the number of working class who think THEY are too good for the working class .....

What is so wrong with social aspiration? There are benefits and disadvantages of being in any social class or subclass. Moving from one class to another trades some factors against others. Money isn't so much of a class thing now, you can be well-off and working class or poor and middle-class. There are many different ways to assess it, profession and education are the main ones.
I am sure there are a lot of people who proudly proclaim they are working class, as they hang up their suit and sit down to artichoke soup, pheasant stew and a bottle of chateau neuf du pape.

AdamW said:I've actually just started reading a book called "Watching the English (the hidden rules of English behaviour)". Just one thing it covers is the peculiar class distinctions we have.
For example, someone who is upper middle class will think nothing of popping into a charity shop to see if there is a bargain to be had. But someone who is lower middle class or working class wouldn't be seen dead in there.
However, you would be unlikely to see someone who is upper middle in Lidls or Netto, and someone who is working class would be likely to see M&S food halls as a treat rather than an everyday shopping location.
Ok OK heard you the first timeAdamW said:kendor said:Hope i worded that in a way that can be understood.
Yes, but remember to doff your cap next time you address me

It is strange its like most people are in favour of bringing back hanging, yet us "do gooders" seem to have the upper hand even though we are in the minority, the "do badders"would have us back living in the dark ages and as they are the majority why aren't we? it just shows that good always overcomes bad what ever the odds, kinda reassuring isn't it?masona said:What I don't understand is wherever I go, who ever I speak to in difference places, I haven't met anyone that support Labour or anything that's good about them. Is it because most people can't be bother or do I need to travel further?
