So what is our contribution to NATO, and if NATO was working properly, those Russian planes that came so close to our shores would have stopped in their track thousands of miles away or we wouldn't have the need to panic and send our fighters in chase, as I understand they were launched by noticing by our air traffic controllers. NATO bases did not warn us of a potential threat.

How do you know?
Was there a potential threat?
Do you think Russia was going to nuke Wales with a plane?

Nato stopped informing me of their operations a while ago. :)

It's interesting that the economic sanctions against Russia are imposed by the EU as a whole. UK was one of the leading nations in agreeing this action. It is thought that Putin believes UK flouncing out would improve his chances of a relaxation.

If we were a bunch of disunited competing countries, there would always be (at least) one too scared, or out to score an advantage by sanctions-busting. Rather like Thatcher's Britain was soft on their friends in Apartheid South Africa.

In other news, RAF jets scrambled after Russian bombers seen off Cornwall

nothing new, unfortunately.

The armed forces probe our defences to see how close they can get before being detected, and how long it takes for interceptors to reach them.

You will recall some ill-will arose after a Russian jet flitting across the Turkish border was shot down in such an escapade.

Submarines too
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/nov/14/sweden-confirms-submarine-violation

"Sweden built an anti-submarine force after a Soviet vessel with nuclear weapons ran aground off its southern shores in 1981, but began dismantling the force as part of defence cuts at the end of the cold war."

Western Democracy can be under threat once again when former communist countries like Russia, and China, as well as new threats from N Korea of nuclear muscle flexing, not that we can't defend, but by being together, we are stronger, and those countries will think twice before committing suicide if they were to launch first N Attack. we are now very much part of Europe ever since we linked our island with mainland Europe via Euro Tunnel, sure you don't want to cut the umbilical cord and starve ourselves.

However, let us not worry about hostilities from these countries, but if we stay, we could have more say and less interference from EU when they have realised we mean business if we leave, no body is ever happy after a divorce, there will always be some heartache, sure we will miss many things, and of course we are going to restrict benefits to many who are abusing our system of benefits.

There more reasons to stay than to leave, but people are only looking at a very narrow angle - migrant workers.

I watched the Great Debate last night and one of the big arguments the Remainers kept throwing at the Leavers was that we should listen to the experts. This is something that David Cameron and George Osborne have emphasised a lot over the build up to the referendum.

This begs the question, why did they not consult and listen to these experts before they decided to risk ruining this great country by instigating this referendum.

If as they are now telling us the consequences of leaving the EU are so dire, what they have done is reckless at the very least and very close to treason.

If that is the only response you can come up with, then the argument is over and I rest my case.

Pronounced (appropriately) XSPERT X being the unknown factor and spert a drip under pressure. ;)

You mean it is your opinion?

If you truly believe what you say, you would consider yourself a traitor to vote on the Resigners side.

However I have no reason to suppose that you are sincere and truthful.

I haven't seen anybody (except rabid Resigners like you) suggest such a thing.

I have, however, seen the overwhelming majority of economists and financial institutions point out that resigning from the EU will damage the UK's trade and prosperity.

This is no improvement on your previous response!

BTW, the only reason I edited my last posting was to insert a missing word ‘is’, all this typing is wearing out my keyboard.
