Mine involves going to my partners elderly dad who in all honesty, couldn't give a stuff if we were there or not but we don't like him to be alone.

I think from December 1st is OK, although we rarely put them up that early, but that's down to laziness!
I think we need them earlier this year, to help disguise all the crazy stress we've had so far this year.

It's the taking them down I dislike, it becomes gloomy & depressing, which is why I don't want to put them up in the first place.
