They came about because, the Muslim Brotherhood, which they were part of, were designated a terrorist organisation by Egypt and Saudi Arabia, amongst others. They were not able to function and splinter groups popped up, Hamas being one.

They came about because Gaza was an open prison, denied any opportunity to build any domestic industries, or of Palatinians allowed to travel, and because the Fatah party were seen as corrupt, not doing anything, and almost complicit with Israel in their racist policies.

Political parties do not form in a vacuum. They certainly don't get elected with an overwhelming majority in a vacuum.

HAmas has been designated a terrorist organisation by Israel, USA, UK and a few other western nations.
UN have not designated Hamas as terrorists.

As Vinty has said, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
It all depends on your personal politics. And the designating of an organisation as terrorist is a political ploy.
Just like accuisng someone of supporting Hamas, when they have not made any commenst supporting Hamas, is a political ploy, a dishonest one, but poliitcal none the less.

If the designating of an organisation as terrorist was not a political ploy, some Israeli/Zionist orghanisations would still be claaified as terrorists.

They are both in the wrong, but I think their racist stance makes Hamas much worse. I don't think the wish to eradicate all Jews is justifiable at all. I would say the same if Israel had the same aims for Palestinians, but they don't.

Its desigantion as a terroprist organisation is open to discussion:

So only Israel, USA , UK and EU as a whole (but not all member states) designate Hamas, in its entirety, as terrorist.
