Kill switch doesnt kill engine

Now apart,it was stuck but a sharp tap with a hammer split it.


I have supplied 2 photos.
I can see straight away the 2 clutch springs are broken.
Can you answer these question yes or no please.

1,Can i clean out the lower section "photo with hammer" with carb cleaner.
2,Are the clutch springs my problem.
3,Should i continue to remove the coil ?

A2273926-0C98-4726-B930-7F54A5D2B90F.jpeg The coil wire should be routed under the coil wire ,pull off the spade connector off the coil terminal if it is actually on there and test for continuity since that was the object of splitting , if its not on that was the problem. the engines runs so probably better if you dont remove the coil . clean the lower half with whatever cleaner you have.
You will require new springs for the clutch to work again

Those clutch springs will stop the clutch from disengaging to some degree and need to be replaced.....the clutch unit may have a left hand thread if it has to come off.

With the small gauge wire in my hand and continity checked for all is ok.
The wire was connected to the spade terminal correctly so it sounds like the low tension side has a fault ?

Ive cleaned up the 3 parts on the drum where the coil generates the spark from.
Lower half casing now cleaned.

Does anybody have 2 springs that i could purchase please.

:eek::eek:No John its one in for repair with no spark which Id been putting off but decided to take a look this am after revisiting this thread. Personally I hate the things and all of them belong in a skip :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
 
Without the springs the clutch halves would fly out and drive the cutters at tickover which is dangerous. the clutch may fit but if it doesn't you could posibly use the springs if you cant find any other
 
This is what happens,on tickover the blades are going in and out of each other.

Looking at the adjustment for the coil it looks straight forward>
There is a bolt which the coil is held in place by.
There is also another bolt which allows the coil to pivot thus making the air gap bigger / smaller.
If i mark tis part then if i take it off i can put it back in the same place.

Coil removed and i assume the flush fitting brush is supposed to stick out more to pick up on where the drum magneto spins.

Cut up an old postcard and place it between the coil and the magnetic part of the flywheel. Allow the coil to be attracted to the magnets and tighten the screws.
Rotate the flywheel to release the card and the gap is set.

Business card is more readily available these days,I haven't seen a postcard in years .
 
I have purchased that item i sent in the ebay link.

Somebody also has a coil.
 
What do you use to undo this item when you dont have the correct tool.
Ive used plug gas and held it whilst trying to undo either way but just to tight.
