Kings coronation bank holiday.

Lucy Worsley is fun and entertaining, and she has got a lot of people interested in history - but she is completely woke, and so you won't be getting the right history from her. David Starkey is also fun and entertaining but non-woke and this is why he is not on the BBC. His podcasts are great and his television series "Monarchy", from about 20 years ago, is excellent.
The historian David Starkey has claimed Rishi Sunak has not engaged with the coronation because he is “not fully grounded in our culture”.
I can see now why you prefer Starkey...
Speaking to GB News on Thursday, Starkey, who has been accused of making racist remarks in the past, was discussing a perceived lack of interest in King Charles’s coronation from the government. A minority of MPs have been invited to the ceremony on Saturday, according to reports.

Still, there's a silver lining to be found as 'The major publishing house HarperCollins UK said it would not be publishing any further books by Starkey'.

What is woke?

Hear it so often but no one can f define it like Brexit.

Head of State and his ilk who is totally unelected
Virtually everyone in authority over us is unelected. Who voted for Ritchie Sunak? Did you vote for lockdowns; power station demolitions: mass immigration; hyperinflation etc etc? By choice I would not give money to any of those things.

Being accused of "racism" and not having books published does not mean he is wrong.

What is woke?
It is the assertion that white people are evil. It came out of the black rights movement in America in the 1960s.

Putting the term racism in "air quotes" doesn't change what he said, or what he inferred by saying Rishi Sunak isn't 'fully grounded' in our culture.
His books were cancelled because such views do not correspond with the majority view of people in this country - nor do they align with the ways in which King Charles is making an attempt to make his Coronation an inclusive celebration of modern Britain.

Maybe they didn't want to publish more of his boring, pompous books.

Isn't that enough. Stronger than any of the feeble arguments against.
Your partial quote of my previous statement deliberately excluded the part in which I stated that none of it stands up to analysis.

If encouraging tourism is enough to justify massive amounts of undeserved public spending with no other benefit to the public then by the same wonky logic we should also subsidise Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Obviously we shouldn't, the public would rightly see that this was nonsense, as most do with the arguments that tourism is relevant to the debate about the royal mafia taking our money.

As Billy Bragg stated recently, you could make a lot more from tourists if Buck Palace became a public venue and you could pay a few quid to stand on the balcony and wave.

Buck palace 550k visitors a year...

Versailles 10 million visitors a year...

Which of the respective countries has a monarchy and which doesn't?
Vatican, nearly 7M per year.
A monarchy which doesn't obey to anyone's rule apart from their own.
And???

Feck all to do with monarchy you figure twisting pillock. Versailles sits in 2014 acres, Buck house sits in just 39. 50 times the capacity but only 18 times the visitors. Buck house open to visitors for just a couple of months of the year, Versailles is open every day of the year with free entrance to the absolutely massive park and gardens . Do you think those facts might have some bearing on the number of visitors per year?

Shown you up for the fool you are. Again!

So following that high level logic, he would have to assert anyone in the UK (black, brown, white) who isn't engaged with the coronation isn't grounded in the UKs culture? He has no way of knowing if Rishi is or isn't engaged and if not, the reasons why. Let's say Rishi couldn't give two hoots about the coronation, it might have absolutely nothing to do with his cultural background.

The funny thing is, whether or not folk like Starkey are right, one thing's for sure. The 'cultural mix' of the UK is changing and will continue to do so. Still, even though it's 2023, it's not that far removed from what folk from the UK did centuries ago i.e. change the cultural mix of far-flung lands. Maybe it's a case of what goes around comes around ...

Not seen anything to suggest rishy is not engaging any more than the others, just an attempt by a has been tv historian to get air time

Blup

So far I have avoided the creepy twosome of Brandreth & Titchmarsh, I am sure they will be omnipresent soon
