Kings coronation bank holiday.

I generally find it easy to ignore the royals. Its a system that you wouldn't invent, but seems to work (constitutional monarchy), but they are dysfunctional, and make up traditions as suits them. I find the excess they indulge in distasteful, in a world of poverty, I don't think they should be given as much money as they get.

Other royals seem to get by with less in other countries, so why can't ours? The Royal Estate generates millions in revenue without tourism, but that isn't a reason for them to live in such extravagance.

We may have had a tenfoot party tomorrow, as a anti-coronation/coronation party (depending on what people preferred), but weather looks dodgy at time we would start. We'll probably end up watching it, simply because its an important part of history, but I'm sure it will be filled with nonsense.

So following that high level logic, he would have to assert anyone in the UK (black, brown, white) who isn't engaged with the coronation isn't grounded in the UKs culture?
In the short time since Tony Blair became lifetime ruler of the United Kingdom the population has increased by over 10 million people, most of them foreigners and most of them hostile to us and our culture.

The hard right in Republican America are promoting the idea that Western population growth is good, no idea why.

Blup

Well at least his imaginary friend has a sense of humour...

You think his 'imaginary friend' controls the weather? Did the daddy you hate teach you that?

Some crazy monarchists have been camping out on the streets of london in tents and sleeping bags for days...

And plod does nothing...

Now imagine plods reaction were said tent/sleeping bag dwellers be part of the ever growing homeless community ;)

Trying to imagine it and I suspect because it's only happened once in 70 years, I shouldn’t think they’ll be too bothered. Not as bothered as you are. You really are desperate to show your hate for your country lately, aren’t you? Had a bad night at the care home?

I wonder if they hate him like he hates his parent? I'm getting the impression it’s a pretty dysfunctional family.

I found the usual religious stuff distasteful.

If you're religious then it's offensive that he's attempting to imply he was somehow sent by god.

If you're not religious then it's just irrelevant.

This is just the royals attempting to hijack a (once) popular belief system. If you believe in god then apparently believing in the king is compulsory.

Not a Royal follower myself but I wouldn't want to change it for a president. It makes me laugh when people say that anybody can be president. Yeah, right, anybody with half a billion dollars backing that is. President Starmer? president Boris? On balance, I think I'll stick.

If we had presidential elections then Charlie or his family would be free to run. You would be able to vote for them. Obviously they wouldn't win though, as they're utterly useless.

If the only defence of the current system is giving worst-case alternatives then that suggests that you're struggling to come up with good positive reasons in its favour.

We're flinging bombs around in Ukraine to defend "democracy". Yet here we are watching this load of nonsense at home. Perhaps it's about time we started practicing what we preach. Sadly I don't think this is going to happen in this lifetime, too much money and power in the current system, and too many without money or power are just scared of change so convince themselves that what we have is somehow acceptable in what's supposed to be a modern country.

It sounded like you had an alternative, but then didn't around to suggesting one. What did you have in mind?

I would never go back to North Africa. Total dump.

Only been once, to Egypt in early 90s. Also travelled down to Aswan. Friend walked down the steps on the dam and got waved back by guards with machine guns. Our Egyptian guide called him a "bloody bugger" for doing this - didn't know they knew such words. Visited, because I was young, curious and naive. 9/11 soon wised me up about the mentality of people from this region, so won't be making the same mistake.
