What a disgrace to the national team. Hardly been mentioned though, has it. Imagine if a Nigerian had done it to one of our girls. She should be pulled from the team and sent home, not have excuses made for her about emotions being high etc. Google pixel should pull that advert starring her too.

Yeah, I watched the game, her stamping on the other player was outrageous. She deserved the red card, and I agree that she should be dropped by advertisers.

What a disgrace to the national team.

Hardly a hanging crime, but you're entitled to your opinion.
There's more for us English to be concerned about on the international stage regarding our reputation though, in my honest opinion.

Hardly been mentioned though, has it.

Depends which news outlets you're consuming.
I've heard it a couple of times already, since 0700.

Imagine if a Nigerian had done it to one of our girls.

I can, too well.
You've our right-wing, jingoistic meeja to "thank" for that being a likely outcome.

She should be pulled from the team and sent home,

You're entitled to your opinion.
I've played and watched enough football to also recall the same, for those who are perceived to not "show enough pride in the badge".
That, and during the autopsy of yet another early exit, where the judgement contains something akin to "we need to get a bit cuter" (aka bend / break the rules).

not have excuses made for her about emotions being high etc.

I could pull any number of irate posts of yours, and all that while sitting in your pants at a keyboard.
This post for a start.
;)

Google pixel should pull that advert starring her too.

Bit of an over-reaction; are your emotions running high? ;)

Thank you. I know that. That is my opinion and so far, more people on here agree with it than disagree. You seem to disagree with or feel the need to make a snide comment with just about everything I post though. Have I slighted you in the past?

"Snide comment"?

That's you're subjective opinion.

I can't help how you perceive something; that's for you, and you alone.

Have I slighted you in the past?

Almost certainly; you do that, when posters don't agree with you.
Surely that hasn't escaped you?

I'm entitled to my opinion too and, if that's at odds with yours, that you take that as a snipe is your issue.
I'll agree and disagree based on merit, not on who posted it.
That's the grown-up way (y)

No axe to grind... But the 'stamp' was more a 'step' albeit deliberate, receiving correct retribution.
Daley and Kelly showed at least our guys (including male) how to rifle a penalty into the net under pressure.

Good teams tend to find a way through competitions penalties or not.

I don't agree with you either.

Unacceptable behaviour on James's part, no matter the provocation. The media seem to have been very gentle on her, probably because the Lionesses won. Imagine the reaction if they'd lost as a result of her red card.

Agree; so did the match officials.

The media seem to have been very gentle on her, probably because the Lionesses won.

My opinion; in part, due to the "newness" of top-level womens' football.

Might be a stretch on my part, but I felt there has been a similar change in rugby union, with the advent of professionalism.
Used to be the epitome of tough but fair, "corinthian" sport.
"Bloodgate" would never have been countenanced before the money came, IMHO.

Imagine the reaction if they'd lost as a result of her red card.

I don't think we've yet gone past the honeymoon period wrt the Lionesses, so I doubt the reaction would have been Beckham-esque.
That time will eventually come though.

I also don't think it'd be tenable to pin a loss on "the red card", unless it was given for the chop that led to a penalty. Too many other mistakes have to occur, to lose a game.

Can anyone tell me why the england penalty appeal was changed by VAR.

I don't watch football but this has been all over the media, so hard to miss. A player deliberately stepping on an opposition player because they didn't get their own way is a bit like a child having a temper tantrum, with the exception that the women is not 8 years old. It is slightly disgraceful but I would say more shameful and has definitely brought a shadow over the proceedings. Her team mates might support her but I would have a fair bet they really wish she hadn't done it.
