Reading a lot of the broadsheets today ........

Lots of people are in the view that LIVE8 is just there for a few charrideee washed up singers to spout their guilt at their own riches ,


an the main question remains why should the Western world keep throwing money/charity that goes straight into the bank accounts of tinpot dictators who are already rubbing they blood covered hands awaiting millions from Live8,to then buy more rockets/guns an ammo

but the Mirror had a classic rant on this today ...dont know if you can read it online but its class stotty an in the week Hitchens was superb about the state of africa since live-aid ...

more live aid money was spent by war lords on weapons than on food aid in the WHOLE OF AFRICA ,TRUELY SHAMEFUL


but as the Red Cross an Oxfam dont arm themselves the big AFRICAN bully steals it all off them ,

Remember Rwanda , where the UN let Genocide happen ,wonder if they would sit by if it was jews an not blacks being wiped out (see the film "Hotel Rwanda ", best film of this year ....)

dont get me wrong I like to think Im still the socialist my old dad beat into me ...but money/wages makes you sucumb to the evils of greed

And what make it worse is that up to now 800,000 Africian doctors & nurses are coming into the UK NHS or private hospital for better money so therefore many are dying because of no treatments being done over there but Blair & Brown keep quite about it.

but hasn't the west been taking advantage of the third world at their detriment for eons now in order to live the lifestyles we've grown accustomed to?

But the problem is not solved by pouring money in but by stop taking wealth out ie stop stripping the third world of it's assets or at least pay what it's worth instead of a pittance.

Obviously touched a nerve by raising this subject judging by the replies!

One of the things BG wanted to provide was food aid, but I saw an article quoting an African leader saying they didn't want it.

I don't think BG is stupid, but it is clearly going to take a lot more than just wiping out the current debt, providing a load of handouts and establishing 'fair' trade to make a real difference.

Perhaps I'm just a cynic, but I don't see much altruism in the world today, especially amongst 'about to be discovered'/ trying to keep in the limelight/ 'has-been' musicians.

The often quoted example for free trade proponents is coffee, where the farmer that grows it gets very little and all the 'middle men' take the profit. The middle men do things like store it, transport it, package it, merchandise it etc. I don't think the middle men should have to do it for free, and the cost of their parts will seem high as it is relative to where they operate. But there is a school of thought that they do nothing but take a cut.

There is another side to the story involving control of markets and corruption, but that issue is endemic to many governments, not just in the 3rd world. For example, why do we have to pay so much for a pint of beer or a litre of fuel?

And its the same for the Farmers here, they get the least--------so no different just a load of winging black people who blame all their ill's on the rest of the world ( and that's not racist )

Well i wont be giving a penny they can all sod off as far as i am concerned , how many times can you help someone before they start to help themselves??

They can put as many starving babies covered in fly's in front of me now and i am afraid i am imune now, time for them to sort their own and get on with it i think, perhaps there are too many Geldoffs around and they have got used to the freebies instead of getting up off their arses

and now they are taking advantage of us by all our manufacturing jobs going to third world countries.............swings and roundabouts my friend

nothing wrong in allowing others to sample the lifestyle that we have done for so long, perhaps the swing should go too far in their favour and we over here can then sample what it is like to go starving every day with no oppurtunity to be able to get out of the predicament, i'm sure it would change a few attitudes then.
