People around the coast who fish sometimes wont eat mackerel. They can often be found in numbers around sewer outlet around the coast. The plus point of shate getting in, more fish and those having problems buying food, balanced diet etc could eat them. The gear needed doesn't cost much but most need a boat to get to them. Rivers are bit different. The outlets can often be seen.
The problem has been going on for many years and no signs of investment to fix it.
Not according to the wiki. It reads like a pretty well set up place. However the news I mentioned stated some are given asylum but that might be leave to stay. Travel advice doesn't sound too bad

When I was close to the place, 70's advice was avoid completely
Age. I used to know some one when I was 16~17 who also was and looked considerably older. It can be the other way round. Sounds like gov needs to check further if any doubt but 1 doesn't make 100's. A few or any will make some use the word they, referring to all. Not uncommon on here. Clear sign of bigotry and highly likely not to be true as it suggests all.
The word they used to crop up in some forms of older recism, often crazy ideas really. Well it's 2022 now. Maybe some haven't noticed.

I'd like to see the passage plan for that. 2,500Nm, 20 days+ at sea and around 30 refuels needed. I think its clear that they come from France and are bussed their from Southern Europe via mini bus laid on by people traffickers. The Schengen zone makes it easier for them to cross boarders up to the north of France.

Actually the EU have had some success in tackling the problem. The crooks involved need both boats and engines. That has allowed some to be locked up. Unusually sized order for them - from China.

But seriously, its not the EU tackling the problem, its the UK funded French authorities who occasionally uncover the manufacturing sites and make a song about it. Destroying a few boats wont stop the problem.
Target the supply of people and the money goes. If people think they will get arrested and deported they wont bother spending £2,500 on the trip.

No. The people arrested came from various countries.
The Netherlands have problems now They have reception centres. Overloaded and 700 sleeping outside.
Any realistic solution might have to be agreed pan european and it would cost all involved. From France to the UK is a particular problem. These people want to come to the UK. Perhaps we should pay for the French to repatriate them - problem solved. Or arrange for it to be done by ourselves.

What goes on at the moment. Moans and winges about all sorts of factors some being about how things just happen to be. These are not going to do anything about those or the problem.
Did you see the news clip yesterday or day before of the authorities on the French coast puncturing a dingy and pepper spraying the folk so they had to abandon their crossing?
Comes back to what I've said before. If France/UK really wanted to resolve this, for 24-36 months, employ 100's of these folk to patrol the coastline 24/7 to do likewise. Call them 'vessel disabling crews' or something.
Oh but the coastline is x miles long!
So f**k, invest the cash for a few years and smother the coastline with these crews. And couple it with drone crews so any that slip through can be dealt with on the ground by a nearby VDC.

Why dont we deport more and put more effort into disrupting the traffickers ?
Just too easy to keep blaming everybody else.
Leaving the EU hasnt cured the problem; so we know now (we knew before) that wasnt the problem. This government has been saying its going to sort the problem for yeaes. Nothings happened ! Whilst the issue keeps its supporters frothing, it keeps their eyes off other things. This forum proves that. As long as there are immigrants to shout about, rather than sorting it !
If UK took their fair share and stopped blaming the French, they might get a more sympathetic reception.

Precisely. Make a process of claiming asylum to refugees that avoids the need for them to risk their lives crossing the channel.
Create a new visa: "Asylum Seeker". Allow the asylum seekers to come to UK by regular means, claim asylum, and be processed just as if they had arrived by dingy.
