We might never find out who is behind this attack, seems to have been carried out by professionals, on the balance of probability it could be the Russian government but what would their motive be.
There has always been a crossover between politics and gangsterism in Russia, that last killing of Russian dissident Litvenko who was poisoned with polonium was a bit of mystery, he had been involved with some shady Russian oligarchs ,one of whom who was found hanged in his bathroom had been feuding with Roman Abramovich who is a mate of Putin.
 
If it was the Russians, then their choice of weapon was clearly intended to make it blindingly obvious that they did it. Why would you choose a weapon that was unique to Russia? Of course if you wanted to blame Russia, then choosing a weapon that only they had is the perfect way. In which case how did it get out?

I think TM request is fair - tell us how it happened or we'll assume it was down to you.

Russia either wont respond or will deny it.

Corbyns comments seem to have been denounced, even some of those on the labour side are distancing themselves from his softly softly approach.

I dont see what else TM could've done, a policeman has been injured and potentially many people could have been in contact with the deadly novichok agent.
 
Nothing will happen. This is all posturing for the public.

There are many ways to have killed him like a suicide attempt or a nice gunshot.

So if it is the Russians then the question is did they do this to gain maximum media coverage so other potential defectors get the message?

It's a worry after the Rear Admiral Burton's comments a couple of days ago regarding the worrying state of funding going to our armed forces.

I can't see it kicking off over night but after the US Dems harping on with the 'Russia hacked our ballot papers' rubbish, it might stir the muck again pointing the finger without being absolutely certain.

That said I'd imagine the intelligence agencies know far more than they're letting on, understandably.

Apparently this ex agent wasn't a defector he was part of a prisoner exchange agreement and lived openly in Salisbury.
He had been extensively debriefed years ago so he wouldn't have had any new information that could have been a threat to the Russians.
As has been pointed out the use of a nerve agent associated with the Russians doesn't seem to be a very good idea if the Russians are behind it.
 
Well if the Russians are not behind it then who has the motive and ability to implement such a False Flag operation?

Plenty in Eastern Europe who have vested interests in stirring up tensions, Ukraine in particular ,plenty living there who dream of invading Russia again they reckon they wuz robbed last time around, Oligarchs who were kicked out of Russia by Putin are using their cash to fund instability in the region in the hope of deposing Putin.
After the fall of the USSR there was financial and social chaos, all sorts of dodgy deals were happening, stuff that was supposed to be disposed of wasn't and ended up on the black market.
If you have the cash and contacts at your disposal then I would imagine that anything can be obtained up to and including nuclear.

To get a nerve agent? That's not some private endeavour that seems like the resources of a state actor.
 
It was either so obviously only from one source that they might as well have attached a card "from Russia with Love". If they were framed, then whoever has framed them had access to top secret Russian chemical weapons that even the Russians aren't supposed to have any more. I think the MO is the same as the polonium gig they pulled a few years back. It was clearly meant to obviously be a state sponsored hit.

I feel sorry for the police officer, from what I've read the impact of this toxin will be long lasting on him.
