Twas April mate...see my post..I go to the US every August and automatically typed August, I realised after the post that it was April as I stopped there on my return from my Uncles funeral in Aukland NZ at the end of March..I had tried to get one in Aukland but they had none available. I cannot comment on when they started selling them in the US, but March 05 seems a little late, I think they may be referring to the updated model, not the original model..which I know mine is anyway.

As I thought..This from the Updated page which is here..

Freddie, I think the people you have spoken too have innocently and automatically referred to the current model, which is an updated unit...they should have mentioned that the model was originally on sale in the US, like the UK about 2 years ago..

Tis a bu#ger that you must have got the EOS300's mere 6 Megapixels then, because the EOS350d has 8 Mp .. I would chase 'em down over that, remember ?
...I use a Canon EOS350 DSLR (6 Megapixel) and that is more than sufficent for what I use it for...

EOS350 8 Mp DSLR was announced on 17th Feb 2005 ... Apparently for PMA Orlando 2005 Marketing Association (PMA) Annual Convention and Trade Show taking place in Orlando, Florida USA and running from 20th-23rd February 2005....

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLR Announced

On 20th August 2003 Canon dropped a bomb into the digital SLR market with the six megapixel sub-$1,000 EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Eighteen months later and just in time for the largest trade show of the year (PMA 2005) Canon has revealed the successor to the 300D, the new, smaller, eight megapixel, EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT). At first you'd be forgiven for thinking this was just a drop-in upgrade of the EOS 300D with the EOS 20D's eight megapixel sensor, but in actual fact it has a new CMOS sensor (it's 8.0 megapixels versus the 20D's 8.2 megapixels), the 350D also has a smaller body, re-worked design, DIGIC II, new features and custom functions.
Global production of the EOS 300D started at 70,000 units per month, this was increased to 100,000 units per month a few months later. Canon clearly have big plans for the EOS 350D because they will be start production at 130,000 units per month (which is almost twice the initial production level for the EOS 300D).

There we go nicely sorted.

Thanks Empip..clears that up nicley me thinks..

I was not aware of Canons update until this particular thread...

Mine is certainly a 350D..I thought it was updated from a 350D, not from a different model..if you see my point...

I do not claim to know that much about camera's or photography, only what i have and there appears to be a bit of a confusion over that??

I must have bought one of the last of the old stock...ho hum...it is sufficient for my needs anyway..

So they only make plastic bodied ones then!

Not according to Canon..but they don't appear to have been aimed at the Retail Market..so I suppose the answer is yes and no

We'll know more when I get a reply from the Canon Tech Guys/Gals who will use my serial number to answer the question for me..and thus the forum I suppose..
