Migrants crossing the channel. What could/should be done?

When I left UK, I didn't choose the first country I arrived in, I made a rational choice based on my preferred lifestyle.
Did you pay smugglers to get you in to your "country of choice" and cross the border illegally, leaving all you documents behind and then instantly become a charge and a burden on the host country's system and taxpayer?

Your comments are irrelevant to why I chose my country of residence, rather than the country of first arrival.
If you are forced to leave your country, you may as well make a conscious choice of where you prefer to go.

Apples and pears again Himmy. Try and stick to the relevant points.

Don't be a dick, I was not commenting on why, but how. There is s big difference between lawful migration and illegal entry feigning asylum.

the problem of refugees is caused by organised crime -refugees pay out their lifesavings to cross the English channel because the smuggler have convinced them that is the best place to go.

brexit has meant less cooperation with France and the rest of the EU so no surprise they dont make much effort to stop them.

but hey the right wingers on here will keep screaming how terrible it all is and how we should just shoot them or sink them -all childish knee jerk reactions but no solution.

the long term solution is stop putting right wrong governments in power that are happy to sell arms to countries like Saudi who then use them for proxy wars.

One must be careful in distinguishing between migrants and asylum seekers.

And it's not about France being a safe country or not...

As has been explained before, most who come to the UK come here because they speak English...

And the streets aren't exactly 'paved with gold' as far as to what they can claim!
(quite a few of our indigenous lot get far more than what they're really entitled to or what they actually need)

Most are fleeing war torn regions, some of which we helped create/fuel and some that we did not...

Between '33 and '39 Britain welcomed over 10,000 Jews a year despite there being 'safe countries' en route...

Was that policy wrong?
Serious question, as per the title of the post, let’s not harp on about what has happened between 1933 and 1939 and why but rather what SHOULD or COULD be done NOW. In 2020. If you’re not prepared to partake in the post, there’s no real point turning it into yet another Brexit thread is there? So, again, what do YOU think should happen?

For sure, there is a difference, but, if you have to leave your country of birth, and live in another country, it is obvious that it will be your country of choice, not the country of most convenience, or first arrival.
It is absolutely human nature to continue one's travels until one arrives at a preferred destination.

Now maybe you can tell us when WWII began?
1933?
1934?
1935?
1936?
1937?
1938?

Or 1939?

The more serious persecution began in 1933, with shop boycotts culminating with Kristallnacht in 1938. So Jews were desperate to leave Germany from 1933

1) Talk to French government requesting agreed return point
2) Announce to public issue has been addressed and resolved with agreed procedure to return all illegal immigrants including +8year ban from entering the UK if caught attempting to enter illegally, each offender identified with biometric data to ensure they can't just turn up again with no paperwork. Additional +8 year ban if caught again.
3) Intercept immigrants and make sure boats are destroyed.

France takes four times the amount of migrants/refugees that the uk does.
The uk cannot do what many on the right wish it could do. Under international law
Priti Patel is "demanding" that the French do something where the correct response would be to negotiate - she's well known in the uk civil service for being intractable . That doesn't work in diplomacy.
We have lost a lot of influence due to Brexit. Plus a lot of intelligence/ cooperation deals / database access
