Migrants crossing the channel. What could/should be done?

1) Talk to French government requesting agreed return point
2) Announce to public issue has been addressed and resolved with agreed procedure to return all illegal immigrants including +8year ban from entering the UK if caught attempting to enter illegally, each offender identified with biometric data to ensure they can't just turn up again with no paperwork. Additional +8 year ban if caught again.
3) Intercept immigrants and make sure boats are destroyed.
Blah...blah...blah
Face it, those boats ain't gonna stop. Too much money to be made. Even fromage with his blunderbus won't frighten them. His breath might though....(y)

Process them as quickly as possible - I am not sure what the time frame that we should aim for but I suspect it should be limited to a few months and if they have no legitimate claim - send them back to their country of origin.
You’re assuming that if they entered illegally that they will hang around to be sent back. Do you really think that likely?

For sure, there is a difference, but, if you have to leave your country of birth, and live in another country, it is obvious that it will be your country of choice, not the country of most convenience, or first arrival.
It is absolutely human nature to continue one's travels until one arrives at a preferred destination.
Waffle. Did you migrate illegally or not?

has nobody on here got a personality, immagination or sense of irony or do you all just jump to the latest post and take it literally?
Well if you didn't mean it 'literally' how are we to filter it from your usual bovine excrement?

The ones we catch obivously. Those that we cannot catch - there are other methods.

In Spain they are rehousing South American migrants by placing them in small villages and Towns that have seen all the young move to the cities and suburbs. 70% of the population live on 10% of the Land. Instead of spending money on costly detention centres they have these migrants doing small jobs, caring after older people - but crucially not on benefits. This approach is way cheaper and far better for the economy.

We could be more creative with our approach - but penalising them won't discourage them. It makes for good politics but poor policy. This doesn't mean its open borders - simply have a better mechanism to deal with them - it's not rocket science.

If you’re not prepared to partake in the post
That's rather a dumb statement

Serious question, as per the title of the post, let’s not harp on about what has happened between 1933 and 1939
The thing we learn from history is that we don't learn from history!

So, again, what do YOU think should happen?
We should look at the cause of the problem, not the outcome!

Some people are suggesting that the remnants of the navy herd these people back into French waters...

Aside from the fact that this would entail a breach of maritime sovereignty/law, it would merely kick the proverbial can down the road again...

there’s no real point turning it into yet another Brexit thread is there?
As others have mentioned, that is the elephant in the room!

If the UK has decided it no longer wishes to cooperate with the EU then why should the EU cooperate with the UK?

Sadly it's the case that in a long line of issues brexiteers have come up short yet again!

The more serious persecution began in 1933, with shop boycotts culminating with Kristallnacht in 1938. So Jews were desperate to leave Germany from 1933
So they were asylum seekers/migrants fleeing persecution and hardship and not a world war...

Would you care to tell us what made them any different from the current batch of asylum seekers/migrants?

That's rather a dumb statement

So, waffle, waffle, waffle and do nothing then? I’m guessing you’re involved in a social/care type of institution.

Funny that. Didn’t know mentioning elephants in the room was allowed on here? When I mention the elephant in the room, I’m locked out. Here we go again.......
