Dogs eat their own poo?
Probably more likely not their own.
I have seen it. I wouldn't call it commonplace.
I am doubting that cats ever do it.

How can you let it lick you in the face if its licking up dog poo?
I don't (hate them) but to be fair, both cats and dogs do lick their arses.

I believe dogs lick faces because they want you to vomit (ok regurgitate) some food for them.

Cats do eat their own poo but it's normally time to take em to the vet because it's normally a sign there is something wrong with them - apart from eating poo that is!

And I am one pleased that dogs and cats lick their own arses. Having had a puppy rescue who hadn't yet been taught by it's mum what to do left me with the delightful job of cleaning it's backside. Luckily she got the hang of it!

This is why lots of dogs were on the streets of Bangkok but no Poo. They would eat. Some say it was better than the Crickets

As a dog owner, I can say its pretty common.

Luckily our dog doesnt do it often.

The other thing dogs dogs do is roll in really smelly fox poo.

Dogs do have an amazing ability to keep themselves clean. Even after long muddy walks our dog has completely clean fur and paws not long after getting back. (Apart from when rolling in something).

Im a dog person, less keen on cats, mostly due to the amount of wild birds they kill.

My dog being an Aussie would eat Kangaroo / Wallabe poo.
Find a dead fish on the beach and have a good back roll with it.

Yes, our dog loved a bit of fox crap too and would roll - had a dog that like cow pats as well. Fox was something else, resulted in being hosed down in the garden with fairly liquid but took days before the smell went.

And not all cats are bird hunters. We shouted and chased our cat every time he went for a bird when we first got him. He doesn't hunt them now at all, at least as far as we know. He doesn't chase them in our company and we never get any bird 'presents'. We've a family of blackbirds that come into the garden every day and they've learned that the cat is fine and they don't worry about each other. Famous last words probably. :)
