New workers rights?

Businesses will create workarounds by putting people on fixed term or temporary contracts with regular review periods. Loads more cost and admin for the business, with much more stress and less job security for the employee. I understand the importance of job security to people, but personally i don't think there is much wrong with the current laws.
I think this is a more balanced, nuanced view than most Ive seen in this thread

And from memory you employ quite a few people in your factory so have plenty of experience

The new proposals don't actually change much as far as hiring and firing goes, although we don't have the final draft yet.

Hasn't it struck you that few would fancy a zero hour contact unless it provides an average 18hrs work a week? Yet there has been a steady increase in numbers % wise.

There is an age breakdown and comments here

Being young can also have rate of pay limitations. Something to wonder about in some jobs.

Current laws were pretty flexible. Maybe reduce the time from 2 years to 1 or 18 months. But what they are proposing is going to put the U.K. on par with some very rigid countries. That will cost jobs.

Flexible for employers, not so good for employees.

You are aware of the employment rules across the EU I'm sure. and you know how ours currently compare.

Example, how easy to dismiss somebody in Germany? How easy to make somebody redundant in France? We can go on if you want.

People posting who’ve clearly never had to go through the process.

Typical GD trolls.

...Making the UK an attractive place to create jobs... or rather it was.

Forgetting that we aren't in the EU anymore, so that benefit has gone.

Our employment rules are still catching up with most of the rest of Europe.

It's still going to be easier here than a lot in Europe. Too many scare stories going on. From people like you, who want to exploit people on low pay.

Low pay! Mechanics have always been paid poorly.

Obviously yours are paid a premium?

What's that got to do with anything ?
Mechanics are on low pay, they have the biggest outlay for tools.

I’ve still got all my boxes full of snap on.!

Mechanics are one step up pay wise from an Aldi employee. So who’s exploiting who ?

Not sure what you are on about

I'm talking of uk employment rights versus EU.

Not me. Not any specific person.

Overall rights.
