No more 'windrush' scandals...

So who here believes that government departments should have the right to withhold information they retain on their own citizens that affect fundamental rights?

What I think Is government and it departments get this all so wrong. If they have to pull this out as a trump card to deport a few undesirables then great I’ll support them with that. But they and previous governments have get the whole sha-bang so terribly wrong.

my problem is the loathsome handful of RWRs who are anti-foreigner, anti-immigrant and anti-refugee, and the persistent hatred they spread..

intolerance is a preference of the far left which portray everyone else as far right

your narrowminded bigotry is divisive

Factually incorrect. John is not telling foreigners that some RWR hate them. He is reminding those very RWR that their political beliefs are built upon hatred.

Factually correct:

'the 3' on here constantly whine RWR this, RWR that......because they love to take the moral high ground and claim anybody with a different opinion is racist and on the far right.

They are the the ones preaching intolerance.

Anybody that raises concerns about immigration.....instantly labelled as RWR racists.

And they love Corbyn....the man who praises Fidel Castro as a champion of social justice.

what a bunch of utter hypocrites

Which pretty well sums up the English Defence League, do you not agree?

So to describe the EDL as RWR is appropriate and accurate, do you not agree?

When that 'trump' card is used against those that have every right to be in the UK, then the system is wrong!
What bod and it's ilk fail to understand is that they are being arrogant/ignorant because they believe it could 'never happen to them'...

They also fail to understand that as soon as you are registered after birth your 'life' is handed to the state.

Thus it's no surprise that such people voted to leave an organisation that believes in human rights!

Where on the political spectrum would you class this comment:
He will be sweating if he has to go back. Hope he kept his bed sheet and sandals.
Left wing perhaps? Right wing? Foreigner hatred? Islamophobic perhaps? Or just pure ignorance, full of contempt for one poster and the inbuilt contempt for the people he is portraying?

Excuse my quoting of my own comment, rather than edit it
When the ideological pursuance of a policy allows the design and operation of a faulty system, irrespective of the consequences or repercussions, then the ideology or the policy may also be considered to be wrong.
Instead of changing the policy, or fixing the system, the government are compensating the unfortunate individuals who have been unfairly treated by the system.
What is worse, is that they are tweaking the system to make it more difficult to identify future victims of a faulty system.

The system should not allow the unfair treatment in the first place, rather than accepting that there will be victims and then compensating them, (after years of them struggling against the system)!

Europeans by and large are 'citizens'. In the UK we are 'subjects'.

This is a very fundamental difference.

Taking the topical example of passports, in most European countries it is a 'right' to obtain one.

However in the UK, this is what the government states:

"There is no entitlement to a passport and no statutory right to have access to a passport. The decision to issue, withdraw, or refuse a British passport is at the discretion of the Secretary of State for the Home Department (the Home Secretary) under the Royal Prerogative."

It is deliberate.

The government is worried about far more cases arising from Europeans being unable to prove their right to ILTR.

Because the government's wish to assuage the irrational fears of 'UK' xenophobes/racists is paramount!

And if the 'windrush generation' suddenly don't have to pay to gain citizenship, why should Europeans who have lived here for many years cough up?

That gives a different insight to the argument of the anti-royalists.

I agree.
Obviously its good that the government are acting to sort out the appalling treatment these people have suffered, but the immigration system needs total overhaul. To start with they should just have an amnesty for all those without papers and give them all citizenship. Then a just and fair system introduced to deal with illegal immigrants.
