Yeah OK Notchy.

The environment secretary has warned the EU that the UK has taken “sufficient” steps to protect its waters after Brexit, as fears grow of a French blockade.
The royal navy boasts three extra vessels, the Home Office will provide a further four and the government can call in help from the private sector, George Eustice said.
A new control centre has been launched, 50 extra fishery protection officers have been recruited and there will be “aerial surveillance”, a House of Lords inquiry was told.
“We have significantly increased our enforcement capability,” Mr Eustice said, adding: “We think that is sufficient.”
The extra muscle was set out after the controversy of access for EU boats emerged as a key dispute in the post-Brexit trade talks, with Brussels demanding an agreement by the end of June.
Ministers have reportedly been told of a “nightmare” scenario, in which French fishermen would blockade ports and paralyse cross-Channel trade at the end of the year.

Thats a load tub thumping for uninformed brexiteers to get excited by.
I guess there are some poor saps that believe it.

What a brilliant strategy: start a fishing trade war with the customer that takes 70% of your shellfish.

A damn sight better than your strategy

A damn sight better than your strategy
Childish jingoism is better than an informed debated explaining reality.

A far better strategy would be for the UK to collaborate with its nearest neighbour not start ramping up conflict.

You are simply being manipulated by the Tory govt. They are ramping up the blame game so its the fault of the EU. The reality is that its tge fault of brexit that was always going to fail.

Fish and shellfish aren't that popular a part of a typical UK diet. A fisheries officer told me that the shelfish market was worth £1billion and more or less entirely licensed to people outside of the UK. That was about 10 years ago,

That one covers gov paying out decommissioning costs

Greenpeace - they just popped up. The same info one way and another is available from all sorts.

The sting in the tail behind all of this is that the UK waters don't have much in the line of popular fish. Herring seems to have made something of a come back but is hardly eaten here.

Just like many brexit persuaders the whole idea was to target groups with specific beliefs in a number of different areas to get a vote of over 50%. They just about did it.

Are they important?

Fishing Industry is 0.1% of the economy If I recall correctly. Its a rounding error.

Are you just stupid ?

Why are the EU insisting on access to our waters then if it's not important to them ? Read eddie M point again as you missed it completely.

80% of uk caught fish is sold to the EU.
if we don't play fair, why should they continue to buy our fish?

Play fair ?????? What are you on about ????? National waters rules are recognised throughout the world. Play fair what a silly thing to say regarding recognised borders.

What do you think the EU has said?

"Mr Barnier was particularly critical of Britain’s insistence that fishing rights to its waters are decided by annual negotiations with the EU, something the British government says reflects its future status as an independent coastal state.

“This is absolutely impractical,” he said. “It is [a] dangerous job; we have a lot of respect for men and women that do that job, they deserve visibility [about future quotas],” Mr Barnier said.

Do you want the UK to renegotiate its permission to export cars and washing machines to the EU every year? And financial services? What will happen to our washing machine factories and banks if they can only see 12 months ahead?

It's just some old bloke talking isn't it? Wasn't very successful as an environment minister was he.

It was a case of give and take, we gave, the eu took. In the 5 decades we were a member, we were always a net contributor apart from a month or 2 in 1975, I guess that was a sweetener for the referendum back then. Well, once bitten, twice shy.
Are you saying we (the UK) were in financial dire straits the whole time we were a member of the EU?
