I doubt that any normal 21st century, phone using, card brandishing average bod, would give two hoots whether the electric company knows that they boil the kettle every time Strictly ends a dance routine.

And via the SM it will not charge your car if you disobey the "orders" Recent new law regarding all EV home chargers that they have to be smart enabled -- why is that i wonder

Obvious, innit - so when the network comes under too much load, it can reduce the load, it can also stagger the start time, so that not all EV's suddenly demand to charge, at precisely the same instant.. Would you prefer, network blackouts perhaps?
