Panorama - The Smart Meter mess

Looks as though my mum might be forced down the smart meter route.

'Forced'? No reason not to willingly accept one, unless you are one of the 'cooking foil hat brigade'. Way past the time when they ought to have mandated smart meters for everyone.

On an energy website it states if you don't opt for a smart meter, your heating 'might end up being on 24/7.' This isn't possible for mum as she essentially switches it on/off via a fused spur, so when it's off it's off off.

Which basically means, paying full rate/no discount for off-peak use, unless a Smart Meter is fitted. You know it makes sense, or ought to...

Well show them, that's all I've been asking.

What are the numbers of disconnections and switches, smart vs dumb, last year?
I don't think that will tell you anything. The demographic for smart meters might be more affluent households with Solar PV, EV charge stations needing EV tariffs and the poorer households had Dumb meters or the other way around. Not to mention the supplier has no incentive to switch an existing pre-pay customer.

Shame. It might help those who claim you are more likely to be disconnected, and easier, with a SM.
So now you are left with all the other evidence, which you dismiss.

Seems you have taken a position without any evidence... again.

My position is that there is no evidence to show that you are more likely to be disconnected or switched with a sm than a dumb meter.

..because you want to ignore the process, the consumer charity outcry, the regulator introducing temporary bans, investigations, market compliance reviews, the magistrates introducing additional checks and balances and those who have successfully claimed compensation for being falsely switched (on smart meters).

How do you know there is no evidence? Is it because nobody has shown it to you?

None of which, has that much relevance, to the majority of bill payers, who pay their energy bills on time. Even for those who do have financial issues, the SM's, as credit meters, give them a big advantage, of knowing precisely how much they are using, and the exact cost, allowing them to budget more easily.

Why should those of us, who pay our bills, pay even more, to support those who their financial lives, irresponsibly?

They are not my claims. If someone wants to claim something they should have the decency to back it up.
Had you and Noseall said:

then people wouldn't have spent the last few pages telling you, that you are wrong.

100% I have the same opinion regarding police who don't pursue shop lifters. Everyone who pays, pays more because of the people who don't pay.

But in the case of SMs there does seem to be more than anecdotal evidence that around 10% are not working properly. I know there are issues with Tesla Powerwalls for example and possibly other storage facilities.
