Why? They monitor it anyway, even if you have a dumb meter - they just have much courser data on your consumption. Who cares whether they know exactly when you cook your dinner, and do your wash and dry - not me ;)
Would you be happy with 24 hour monitoring of where you go in your car. And its not just about knowing when you cook your dinner its what time you get up, when you go to work and return, how many people are in your house the sex of the people in your house, what you watch on tv, when you go to bed, when you get up, when you go on holiday, when you get back.

WTF are you waffling about now? Are you suggesting a SM can spy on people?

Correct. It's just a meter for goodness sake.
that can be remotely switched off or converted to a pre-pay... for goodness sake.

Do you know what "you are no more likely to be disconnected with either meter" means?
Do you know what happens when your meter is remotely converted to pre-pay and you don't pre-pay.

Its called "self disconnecting".

So what. Some make it sound like you can be disconnected or switched on a whim. That just isn't true.
In a second not a whim and no court visit required no bailiffs or lock smith or fitter required no weeks of back and forth visits . So yep they say no and it's the press of a button

From the link to the SM propaganda -- do they think are people stupid look what it says. They say no but then confirm yes on the same sentence who wrote that crap.

Can a smart meter cut off power?
A smart meter cannot cut off power by itself. In some rare instances, energy suppliers can switch off energy supply.

I love smart meters, when the credit from pre payment doesn’t go through to the meter, it’s an easy call out for the lazy sods who can’t be arsed to type it into their meter keyboard.

And I’ve seen a fair few go faulty. Unlike the old type.
