Panorama - The Smart Meter mess

Obvious, innit - so when the network comes under too much load, it can reduce the load, it can also stagger the start time, so that not all EV's suddenly demand to charge, at precisely the same instant.. Would you prefer, network blackouts perhaps?
I would prefer the GOV to have not got rid of our gas storage capabilities, I would of preferred the GOV not to of shut down our last form of back up power I would prefer the GOV not to rely on wind and solar for our power like the last 2 or 3 weeks without either. I would prefer the GOV to secure our energy rather than just cutting people off. If EVs are the problem then perhaps its would be better to restrict who can have them --- hold on wait min - that will come next.

Not exactly what I was talking about was it and the tek is far more advanced than just detecting simple peaks - boyo

The sm tek, at best reports your 30 minute consumption data, as a single batch or string of data, at the end of each day. That data can take up to an additional 24 hours, to make it to your supplier. Which unfortunately confirms you are making things up, to suit your retoric.

Now that, I can agree with!

I dont see your argument - so you are saying that they can do all I said but only what I did yesterday. And there is no rhetoric - I am saying it can be done and I am saying how easy it would be to do it.

How useful, is old consumption information, to anyone? Answer = of no practical use to anyone, except the supplier, and perhaps the customer.

Special offers? They used to have those when analogue meters were about too.

The graph below, simply shows what pay and paid, for each and every 24 hours, irrespective of when I used it, during the 24 hours, or how much electric or gas I used. The near straight dotted white and yellow lines are the SVT CAP prices, the prices almost everyone pays. The sig-zagging line below it what I actually paid over the past year.

Notice in the graphs below, that what I pay, has increased gradually, and on a couple of days, even exceeded the CAP - That is due to the poor wind and solar generation, particularly during the past month. All of which is more than compensated for, when I pay low rates, like 10p Kw for the day, and everyone is paying the CAP, at 27p per Kw.

Of course you need to have smart meters, not so they can spy on you, but so they know how much you used, each day, at which charge rate. Of course you can save some, by watching the cost for each day, but as it's generally cheaper, or even much cheaper at times, you save considerably, just carrying on with your consumption as you normally would.

It's the Octopus Tracker Tariff, which is based on the spot price on the energy market, plus a bit to cover Octopus's operating costs, VAT, plus a margin of profit.

How would they know when you were using the power?
You've quoted the wrong poster....
what time you get up, easy one ==- when the power starts kicking in
when you go to work and return,== same as above
how many people are in your house === how much is being used
the sex of the people in your house, ===women using hairdryers straighteners which will have their own power usage signature.
what you watch on tv,=== based of when you put the kettle on as able to tell its the kettle via its power usage signature so after or before watching strictly come dancing.
when you go to bed, when you get up,
when you go on holiday, only background power used for a week
when you get back. == refer to the first one.
So its not difficult to work it out for yourself how it can all be done.
