My understanding, from direct contact with people who run organisations that deal with these migrants, is that the ones who risk everything to get here illegally, by whatever means, are actually far more interested in forging a productive life for themselves and contributing to the economy. Those who use the legal routes are more intent on sitting around and freeloading off the welfare system

The last government introduced laws that meant illegals could not apply for asylum, this government broke them and claimed they would result in people never being deported.

Most illegal boat people are told to destroy their ID because they don’t want their previous applications or long stays in safe countries to go against them.

Plenty of civil rights lawyers advise illegals to claim they are persecuted Christians or homosexuals it’s the same with visa overstayers.
