although I may appear to be arguing for the other side here - I think it is entirely reasonable for someone who has escaped from some ****hole, war torn country not to have any documentation. (do you have any utility bills?) it is entirely reasonable they may just have a story. And it is only reasonable for us to start from a position of trust.

But saying all that, it is also very reasonable to assume, some / many / most will have a well rehearsed story, a story that ticks all those boxes that grant them access to our wonderful and generous country.
And those on here who believe 90+% are genuine and not economic migrants are wildly unrealistic

But it's reasonable to say the home office do know their true nationality and on that basis the most coming here are refugees not economic migrants, but where the ratio is impossible to know

But to address your main point, yes it's extremely difficult for refugees to produce the right documents and a complete nightmare for the home office to do the research.
