But is it that you believe that you have 'never wanted' benefits or 'never taken' any benefits?
(I'd wager that should any of those scenarios happen to you, then you'd be hollering about your 'rights' because you've 'paid in to the system'!)

Festive, if you are in a position to never need benefits then you are very lucky. Many MANY people are not so lucky and sometimes it just takes a couple of pay cheques to start spiraling down.
Surely it is better to live in a society where we take care of our people who are sick, have had a run of bad luck, circumstances beyond their control, rather than let them rot just in case there were a few people who take advantage of that system?

When people cannot distunguish between lies and the truth or fact and fiction then they will be manipulated to vote against their best interests.
Why would anyone in their sane mind want the US health system? Yet there are quite a few on here like Motty would would argue as long as there one person who is defrauding the system then the only option is to privatise it so you have to pay to use. But what he forgets is that in an insurance based system you will still have fraud and then dealing with moral hazard.
Adam Curtis (one of the greatest documentar producers in the world) produced a documentary about this and how it transpired in Russia. He termed it as hypernormalisation where in a complex world people would gravitate to simple solutions and soundbites like - taking back control, build a wall, we have run out of money etc..
It's a post truth world. Everyone should watch this. It's exactly what we are discussing.

I wonder how many of those people not so lucky as his (allegedly) self sufficient self have had the misfortune to 'serve' him through their roles administering the public services that he undoubtedly calls upon from time to time?
