If you read what I posted, you'd see that I was not making a blanket argument for privatisation. I do not believe it works where there is no competition.

Another good example in the news today. The Sun writes "“I don’t like his views in relation to anti-Semitism and I don’t like how he is affiliated with Hammas and Hezbollah, who he refers to as friends.”"
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10272024/duping-corbyn-supports-terrorists/

But putting it on quotes from a 15 year old who is pranking somebody they get away with it. Of course, if you have dealt with the press you know that they usually dictate the quotes.

And as we know, Corbyn is neither an anti-semite or affiliated with Hammas or Hezbollah - but the Tory press keeps repeating it - just not directly, always a quote from a 3rd party, rather than the editor that could be prosecuted for libel.

The best thing we could do to improve this country is shut down the press! But now I sound more like Trump or Hitler....

There is more than enough evidence to defend a defamation claim.

How do you know?

because the whole thing was made up by the press?

the Chakrabarti Inquiry concluded "is not overrun by anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, or other forms of racism," - there may be some issues, but not actually as bad as in some other political parties!

"The ultimate goal of this campaign against Labour is not to stamp out anti-Semitism in England or in the Labour Party. Rather, the goal is to tar the Party with the brush of Jew-hatred so that British voters will view the Party as extremist. The purveyors of this canard care not so much about promoting tolerance in Britain, as they do about destroying Labour’s chance of becoming the ruling party in the coming election." https://www.jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/article/labours-anti-semitism-crisis-is-*******s/

Private companies can often deliver better services because they have to compete to win.
Name one public service provided by public companies that has benefited the customer in terms of cost efficiency and level of service provided.
Then name one public service provided by public companies that hasn't disproportionately rewarded shareholders and it's management teams...

Some private companies may well appear to deliver better services (albeit at the expense of the workforce) in the private marketplace, but they fail to perform when they have an endless pot of taxpayers money in the public sector.

And what happens when a private company providing public services goes bust after having milked the system? - yep, the taxpayer pays up yet again!

Privatise the profits and socialise the debts!

I think record low unemployment is a pretty good way of keeping people earning enough to feed themselves.
If that were to be the case, why are there record levels of food bank use along with massive increases in homelessness and poverty?

There is more than enough evidence to suggest it wasn't something made up by the press. That is not to say the Labour Party is institutionally anti-semite. You have to recognise the careful language a lawyer will use. "Widespread","over-run" etc. doesn't mean that there aren't deep routed issues or "serious problems". Chakrabarti herself says this:

Yes, but that is talking about the party as a whole. Where does it say Jeremy Corbyn is an anti-semite?
How many Jewish leaders has the Tory party had? Not as many as Labour.

A story that the tabloids are not talking about today is that Tory MP Francesca O'Brien said people on benefits should be exterminated. Maybe this deserves it's own post....

Because she didn't say that and the comment she did make was 5 years ago. I'm not endorsing her btw.

In posts that have since been deleted, she wrote in January 2014: “Benefit Street..anyone else watching this?? Wow, these people are unreal!!!”

In response to a friend’s comment, she wrote: “My blood is boiling, these people need putting down.”

In no way does that = people on benefits need putting down.

1 month or 5 years, makes no difference. And even if only those individuals she was that day, and not all on benefits, still unacceptable to say somebody needs to be put down because they, to her, appear worthless.

But my point here is really, this is how the press work. Take something, blow it out of proportion, get people talking about it etc. Either do discredit a person and create a smoke screen for something else that is going on. And people lap it up.

Yes, but that is talking about the party as a whole.
These Labour supporters aren’t happy about it.

I can see. I didn't say there is no problem. Just, it is liekly no worse than seen in other political parties.
But that still doesn't mean Corbyn is an anitsemite.

Surveys carried out by YouGov have shown that anti semitism is a bigger problem among Tory party supporters than among Labour party supporters.
Of course it all depends how you choose to define anti semitism given the fact that most Jewish people are not semitic.
