I watched some of a bbc study of fake news more related to conspiracy theories last night. It explained how social media magnifies it. One USA bloke has been fined a lot of money. Explains why he does it. People directly involved with the recent school shooting took him to court. There is a UK bloke into the same thing, now removed from Youtube but still has a web site.

It only needs a few fruitcakes, setting up websites or posting on social media, to gain a massive following. Look at the anti-vaxxers who try to spread false information on here.
